Cold Sweat was one of the heaviest tunes ever written by Irish rock band Thin Lizzy. It was featured on their final studio album Thunder and Lightning and was co-written by new guitarist John Sykes, with Phil Lynott. The song became the biggest hit single from the album, entering the UK charts in 27th place.
The song is also known for Sykes’ fast and complicated guitar solo, which features a lot of tapping - a playing style that only Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads, and a few others, had been using to that date.
The German Thrash metal band Sodom did a cover of the song on their 1990-album Better off Dead. The German Power Metal band Helloween produced a cover version of this song on the 1994 EP entitled Perfect Gentleman. The Norwegian Heavy Metal Band Jørn, featuring vocalist Jorn Lande covered the song on their 2007 cover album Unlocking the Past
