Colasanti Farms is a family-oriented place. Founded by Alex Colasanti, taken over by Joe Colasanti and now owned by Joe's son and daughter. This close-knit family of proprieters has helped the community benefit from its tourism potential, and is involved in many community activities. They take pride in supporting many youth sports teams (women's hockey, Lacrosse, jump rope, soccer, chess tournaments etc). The tropical gardens also hosts a wheelchair fundraiser, which raises money for children in need of wheelchairs. The wheelchair fund was founded by Joe Colasanti. Joe travels promoting the collection of pop tabs and aluminum, to help raise money for wheelchairs. In 1994, the Tropical Gardens made local headlines in the Windsor Star when Joe Colosanti began a fundraiser to help their adopted miniature pony, "Buttercup" get surgery she needed for her hooves. The public had responded positively and helped donate the money for the small horse. Colasanti's houses the Ruthven Apple Festival each year on its grounds. The festival occurs every last weekend of September. As well, the last two weekends in October, the Haunted Hayride occurs.
