Col-Glen Shinty Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Col-Glen Shinty Club is a shinty club based in Clachan of Glendaruel, Cowal, Argyll, Scotland.
The club's name reflects the two villages from which it draws its players and support from, Colintraive and Glendaruel. Due to its proximity to Kyles Athletic and the sparseness of the population, the club has folded on occasion but presently plays in South Division Two.
[edit] History
The Club was founded in 1920 and had early success in competition. A sign of the changed demographics of the Scottish Highlands is that Col-Glen could raise 3 full teams and have 9 spare reserves in 1938 but now have only one side as well as a couple of youth teams.
Due to the sparse poulation, the club has folded on two occasions, between 1966 and 1968 and for a longer period between 1993 and 2005. The club remerged in 2005 to compete in the Bullough Cup (which it had won in 1983) and then reentered League Shinty with the assistance of ex-players who had been part of Kyles Athletic's 1994 Camanachd Cup winning team.
