Valldemia is a Marist school located in Mataró Catalunya. The school’s origins can be traced back to the Catalan Academy at the Can Miralpeix (View of the Fish Home) New School at the Country Manor, founded in 1856 by three Marist Brothers, Hermenegild Coll i Valldemia, Pelegrí Ferrer and Ramon Cuspinera. The school was founded with the objective to provide a modern education, comprehensive and Christian. Thirty one years later, 1888, the school acquired its current location on Carrer Sant Josep, in a building that was to become known as the Valldemia School of Mataró [1].
The school received its first international recognition at the Paris Exposition in 1900, a Gold Medal in recognition of quality education. During the convulsive years that marked the Spanish Civil War Valldemia was converted into a hospital and blood bank[2].
Today, the school has 1200 students from ages 3 to 18, who are taught by a staff of 90 teachers.
