Joseph Patrick Spurgeon (better known as Coffin Joe) (born on January 21, 1986), is the drummer of Southend group The Horrors.
Joseph spent his childhood years growing up in the small country town of Clare, in rural Suffolk, where he attended the local middle school, and later the nearby Stoke College, a private school in Stoke-by-Clare. It was at Stoke College he learnt to play the drums under the tuition of Roger O'Dell (drummer for band 'Shakatak') and music teacher Adrian Marple. After leaving Stoke College, Joe studied at Colchester Sixth Form College for two years.

- In the band's Fanzine handed out to fans at gigs Spurgeon contributed a section called "How to make your own skinny jeans/cigarette pants" and later a guide to"Coffin Joe's Beat Step Part 1", followed by "Coffin Joe's Beat Step Part 2" in the third fanzine.
- Spurgeon is also well known for a YouTube Video of him dancing.[1]
