Coercion (linguistics)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In linguistics, coercion is when the grammatical context causes the language-user to reinterpret all or parts of the semantic and/or formal features of a lexeme that appears in it.
Coercion is closely related to the notions of active zone, construal/conceptualization, and syntactic accommodation known from various schools within the cognitive linguistics movement.
