Coed Hills

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coed Hills is a Rural Artspace situated close to the village of St Hilary in the Vale of Glamorgan, approximately 8 miles west of Cardiff.

Set in 180 acres, the Artspace was established in 1997 and is designed following principles of low impact development. Energy for the whole site is provided by renewable energy systems, including wind turbines, solar thermal collectors, photovoltaics and biomass. Additionally, much of the food is grown on-site using permaculture techniques. Woodland is managed on a sustainable basis and timber is processed in an on-site saw mill. The site is open to visitors and guided tours and provides an educational resource via workshops that are run for schools, colleges and groups.

The Coed Hills community aims to "embrace the new and old in order to lead a more sustainable existence, both ecologically and socially".
