Code amber alert (London Underground)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On the London Underground system, a code amber alert requires all trains to go no further than the next station. It stops the trains but permits rapid evacuation or rerouting of passengers can happen quickly. Code amber alerts occurred in response to both the 7 July and 21 July 2005 London bombings.

A code red alert is the next step in severity. All trains are required to stop immediately regardless of location. This could result in a train being stopped away from a platform or part-way down a platform and in both cases special procedures would be needed to get passengers out.
