[edit] Heather Hunter

I am so glad you cut this sentence from the Heather Hunter article: "and Wyclef Jean (unknown track for Heather's debut album that didn't make the final release)." Because this was totally sketchy. Don't you think if you had Wyclef Jean in the studio, you'd put that track out? There is still a lot of baloney in this article. K72ndst (talk) 04:23, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes probably so.  :-) If there is anything else that sticks out like baloney, will you please let me know?

[edit] Help needed with tables

{{helpme}}

Hello I recently removed a number of the "uncited" pie incidents from List of people who have been pied and noticed that the tables are a wreck. There is an extra column on the right hand side which is exposed, and mid-way through there are a bunch of strike marks too. Thankfully this isn't a result of changes that I made, but I'd still like to see the page fixed. Is anyone a guru with wiki tables who would be willing to lend a hand? Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 23:16, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Done. x42bn6 Talk Mess 23:35, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help needed with another site notice

{{helpme}}

Hello again can someone please help me with removing the "Call for Participation" notices from Wikimania? I thought I had my monobook.css file updated enough, but apparently not. Maybe this is a browser security problem, but even though I hide the message it keeps reappearing. If there is a CSS hack to get rid of this I'd be very grateful with the correct key to remove it. Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 18:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I am intentionally not removing the helpme (put that in bold so it gets noticed - usually people see a reply and remove the box without reading, anyway) because this isn't a real response, but you may want to ask at the tech village pump (again, I know you went through this last time), as CSS can be quite tricky sometimes, as you've undoubtedly noticed. You'll get a much higher chance of someone knowing what to do there. I'm actually surprised nobody has mentioned it yet.
What I can suggest is making sure that your browser is retaining "cookies" when you close it. I'm not getting this problem, even though I clear out just about everything when I close Firefox, and I think it's because I'm holding on to the cookie that says "get rid of the perpetually annoying banner." In Firefox, you can check this in Tools -> Options... -> Privacy -> Private Data Settings... As for IE, I don't have the most recent version, so I really can't say. If you're on Safari, then I'm quite lost. But that should work, if you can find the right button to push. Hope that helps...? Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:17, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Try this code:

.mw-dismissable-notice {display:none}

I haven't tested it, but I think it's the relevant CSS. --ais523 19:29, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes it does, and actually the # is right; I wrote the wrong character by mistake. (The . means 'class', and the # means 'id'.) --ais523 21:32, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry guys, I'm still getting this annoying banner. The resolution of my display is very small, and I'd like to get this valuable real-estate back! Take a look at my monobook.css and let me know what I'm doing wrong. (When I try to hide the "Call for Participation" notice it just pops right back up again). Can someone please help??? Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 23:13, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Probably something you have tried already but might it be an issue with cookies and your browser not accepting them from the en.wiki site? BigHairRef | Talk 14:59, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

{{helpme}}

I'm about give up on this. Now I get a banner that says this:

"The next Philly Wikipedia Meetup will be held Saturday April 5th. You're invited!"

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can this be turned off. This is so annoying. Is there anyone I can talk to???  :-( (Note: If you are a knowledgeable Wiki administrator, please feel free to modify my css page to turn all these damn things off once and for all.) Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 22:56, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

I just added something to your monobook in the hopes it would help; unfortunately, as far as I can tell, you've got the code that should be stopping this. I'd recommend asking at the tech village pump for stuff like this in the future - the helpme patrollers don't generally know CSS classes, and I can't find the relevant class name in Mediawiki:Common.css or Mediawiki:Monobook.css. Sorry. Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:42, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Malplaced disambiguation pages

Please don't remove {{db-movedab}} from redirect pages. The template is there for a reason -- as it says in the message (which I hope you took a moment to read), the page that the redirect points to is a malplaced disambiguation page and needs to be moved to conform to Wikipedia naming conventions. Thank you. --Russ (talk) 17:45, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I didn't realize that it was "malplaced" are you sure there is a consensus for this change? If so can you please direct me to such a discussion I would like to read it. I apologize for any confusion. Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 17:51, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your AfDs

Please use the afd2 template (as described at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#How_to_list_pages_for_deletion) when creating the deletion discussion page for an AfD. This adds the usual helpful navigation links to the deletion discussion page. I just added the missing navigation links to several AfDs that you created today. Having those links there makes dealing with AfDs much easier. Thanks. Klausness (talk) 18:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Klaus. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 18:51, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I hate to be a complainer here, but while your latest AfDs do have most of the usual links, they're still missing the links for "View AfD" (if you're looking at the log) / "View log" (if you're looking at the AfD). I've added them to the ones I noticed, but you should be getting them automatically with the subst:afd2 stuff. Klausness (talk) 22:25, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Primary sources

When using this tag, could you try to provide a more complete description of what you think is wrong on the talk page? It is unclear exactly what facts you think are inappropriately covered using primary sources, especially when an attempt has been made to establish notability through third-party sources. Primary sources are considered sufficient for purely descriptive facts about the subject itself which can easily be confirmed without expert knowledge.

This request was particularly in regards to WikiFur, but it may apply to Memory Alpha and similar articles which you recently tagged. GreenReaper (talk) 19:33, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

WikiFur depends almost exclusively on wikia.com websites for sources, and lacks detailed third party sources. That is why the primary sources template was added; you may wish to read it and try to add sources published by independent third party sources where possible. If such sources do not exist the article may be (re)listed for deletion under those circumstances. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 19:35, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Why add {{not a ballot}}? It implies that an attempt has been made to attract single-purpose accounts to a deletion discussion, which is not the case. GreenReaper (talk) 20:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

GreenReaper, you should not be !voting on this in the first place, you have a clear conflict of interest (WP:COI) in this discussion. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 20:08, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
So wait . . . you placed a template on the article telling readers it's not a ballot, and then claim that I can't vote in said non-ballot? You can't have it both ways. :-)
There is no reason to exclude my opinion or arguments from the deletion discussion. My affiliation is clearly stated on the user page, and I am far better placed to provide arguments for its notability than most other members of this project. I am not blind to the requirements of Wikipedia, either; I voted for the article's deletion when I felt it to be appropriate. I do not in this case, as I did not in the last. GreenReaper (talk) 20:41, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
In any case, please read WP:COI it is my belief your judgement is clouded. If that is not the case, then we just disagree on this issue as it is clear to me that this website does not meet WP:WEB at this time. Best of luck to you. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 20:47, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] picture

Please remove that picture from your user page. It's the sort of thing which is considered offensive in such a context. DGG (talk) 04:36, 22 May 2008 (UTC) --- thanks for being reasonable about it. DGG (talk) 19:25, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Railway stations

Consensus amongst the Trains Wikiproject is that railway stations are notable, which is why the AfD you commented on failed. Biggest problem with most of them is that there is plenty of published info out there, but it hasn't found its way onto Wikipedia yet. Mjroots (talk) 11:25, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

This really doesn't answer the heart of my question, but thank you for the note nonetheless. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 15:28, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Websites for deletion

Before nominating anymore websites or wikis for deletion, you should try and find some substantial sources on the subject. If you have a list or plan on nominating anymore articles please tell me and I may be able to help you out.--Otterathome (talk) 22:21, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Otterathome. I try to do a reasonable check prior to nomination. Please let me know what services you use, I tend to check against Google and Lexis Nexis. If nothing substantial turns up, it gets nominated for deletion. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 18:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] David Cook (singer)

can you make a case as to why David Cook (singer) should be semi-protected? If I see that it is necessary, I might protect it. Kingturtle (talk) 21:13, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

The repeated re-insertions of unsourced biographical material contradictory to WP:BLP policy is an ongoing issue with this article. Personally I'd much rather our editors be required to pass some sort of BLP "school" if you will before they were allowed to edit such an article, but I might be thinking too far out ahead. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 21:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

OK, makes sense. I semi-protected it for a few weeks. Kingturtle (talk) 21:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Sockpuppet nomination"?

You used these words in one of my AfD nominations. Did I do something wrong in your opinion? I want to be certain that I am nominating and participating in AfDs with integrity. ~ Antiselfpromotion (talk) 23:26, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure I don't need to explain myself on this one, especially to you of all people. I wish you the best of luck on your crusade and try not to intentionally ruffle up too many feathers.  ;-) coccyx bloccyx(toccyx)

[edit] Your COATRACK concerns...

Greetings!

I try my best to understand the concerns of those who disagree with me as fully as possible. In your recent nomination of Abdul Salaam (Guantanamo detainee 826) you based your nomination on the WP:COATRACK essay.

I responded in the {{afd}} to COATRACK concerns. I think the essay makes some valid points.

In my experience however, those who claim its authority have never been able to be specific about which specific passages in the essay they think are being ignored.

And, as I pointed out in the {{afd}} the essay suggests, in the section Wikipedia:Coatrack#What to do about coatracks:

An appropriate response to a coatrack article is to be bold and trim off excessive bias content while adding more balanced content cited from reliable sources. In extreme cases, when notability is borderline, and there is little chance the article can be salvaged, deletion of the entire article may be appropriate. It is not actually a policy or guideline however.

Now, you are fully entitled to reach the conclusion the notability of Abdul Salaam is "borderline". I know some people would agree with you. But it profoundly disappoints me when those who have a concern like yours don't first raise that concern on the article's talk page. Wikipedia is not a battleground. The project has commitment to reasoned discussion, and reaching decisions through consensus.

I don't know if you have had an article you started, or have done a lot of work on, nominated for deletion. It can be extremely unpleasant. Over and above the natural feeling someone can experience when having their efforts challenged I am afraid some of the regular patrollers of the deletion fora routinely ignore the wikipedia's civility policies. In fact, once you start looking for it, I think you will find that lapses from the wikipedia's civility policies are so routine in the deletion fora, that they generally pass without notice.

For this reason, when I have a concern over someone's contribution I always raise that issue on the article's talk page, or on the contributor's talk page, or both. Sometimes I am wrong. Sometimes my concern turns out to be misplaced. I find it far better, far more likely to preserve the wikipedia's community of collegiality, when I raise my concern on talk pages.

I supplied some additional references to the Abdul Salaam article. The Associated Press published an article about him -- because a military spokesman said he was the very last captive to have his status reviewed. (In actual fact the DoD convened an unknown number of controversial "do-overs" in February and March of 2005.) And his case is described in at least one book about the captives.

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 13:45, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] About "XMPlay"

I think XMPlay is just only not much popular for regular playback, so there aren't any publications about it; but it is widely used for game developer: game soundtrack and playback (EX: PopCap Games's Bejeweled, Retro64's Cosmic Bugs,...) You can search for XMPlay in Download.com, FileForum.com and so more website... It's the good and lightweight player overall! Please don't delete it! Hippy deluxe (talk) 13:50, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why is my page not allowed but another "personal" site is?

I've tried to add a URL to the page about the "Paul And Young Ron" Wiki page but it is consistently deleted, recently a reason was given - "Unacceptable Link". I can only assume that this site is considered a "personal site" but if they are not allowed, how come the 4th site listed (The unofficial tribute site) is allowed to be listed?

To be neutral, as Wikipedia claims, either both sites should be allowed or neither (the other 3 are professional sites put up by the radio station and the staff of the show).
