[edit] Purpose of the experiment

Part of the purpose of our experiment is to give evidence that the model Wikipedia uses simply does not work. We aren't interested in "fighting nonsense" on Wikipedia, because Wikipedia simply is not an encyclopedia, but a place where people can play encyclopedia on the web. The current model is flawed, and we are writing a paper which reveals those flaws and talks about how to fix the model itself. ErdosvillePhil 20:14, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship

Yes, I would definitely support you. We need all the vandal fighters we can get. :) NawlinWiki 18:22, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I would co-nom, if I can. Agathoclea 19:07, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
thanks for letting me know the page is up. In general though it does not look well if you let too many people know. Also you will need to link in the page to the main RfA page. Agathoclea 22:48, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
OK first off, you make claims that are unsupported by evidence:
"...I began creating articles and editing things I knew about or could easily locate." - such as? Difs would be great here.
"...I enjoy creating articles for things I find amazing aren't yet documented by someone else." - difs required again.
Secondly, the answer to question 1 is weak. Have you looked at the areas in which admins are involved at all? If you have, can you express a preference for dealing with one over another? Would you close XfD discussions but not deal with copyright problems or image deletions, for instance? This is an opportunity to express your understanding of what the position of admin means - are you a pure vandalfighter/deletionist?
Thirdly, another lack of evidence in the answer to question 3:
"and quickly learned the value of reserved, nuanced responses and commenting on content not contributor." - difs required to demonstrate how and what the effect was.
I learned to rely heavily on the policies and procedures in heated debates, and how to deflate the tension..." - difs required as above;
Spelling and grammar:
for things I find amazing aren't yet documented by someone else > for things that I find amazing but have not yet been documented (line 2)
alot > a lot (line 3)
in a way that allows > ways that allow (lines 3/4)
as to what an encyclopedia is > as to the nature of an encyclopedia (line 4)
beleive > believe (line 15)
learend > learned (line 16)
over which > within which (line 16)
Syntax:
Several long sentences that can be broken in to a series of discrete thoughts, such as:
"I'm not picky; I'll try my hand at any of it, but if I find I excel in one area, or there is alot more need in an area, I'll do whatever I can as my time allows."
This is hard to read and can be broken up as follows:
"I will try my hand [at any of the admin tasks]. [I will specialise in one area] if I find that I excel or if there is a backlog. [Other than that], I am not picky."
I would definitely look favourably upon an RfA that provided evidence and was easy to read. Thank you for the opportunity to express my opinion and I wish you good luck in your application. (aeropagitica) 00:03, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
still going ahead? Agathoclea 16:57, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
If that is the case it might be wise to shelf the idea for a little bit, and revisit once you have the time to be on call for the time of the RfA. What worries me ATM is the unlinked RfA standing currently. It was held against CSCWEM that his RfA was up long before it was linked in. OTOH there were nearly 100 Supports before he even accepted the nomination (and subsequently withdrew due to the issues raised). One thing you might want to watch is the use of editsummaries. There is a setting to force you to use one. Some people look at that when making their mind up. Agathoclea 18:51, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Seeing as how you are part of that group for adhering to grammar and you want to be admin, you should at least make sure your user page is w/o spelling and grammatical errors. One of your categories is "Articles which fascinate me." This should be "Articles that fascinate me." Jaardon 13:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Philly meetup

Hi! There will be a Wikipedia Meetup in Philadelphia on 4 November. If you're interested in coming, RSVP by editing Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia 2 to reflect the likelihood of your being able to attend. If you have any questions, feel free to ask my talk page. Hopefully, we'll all see you (and each other) on the 4th! --evrik 16:04, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Given that I am on another continent, it is probably not wise to put me in charge of snacks. Fortunately, the thing is at a restaurant, so food should be easily attainable without my help. As to my coolness, my admin status only makes me the cooler, for I don't even actually do any admin tasks (except deleting pages for moving, occasionally). I'm totally bad ass! I think I need to work harder on carefully cultivating an attitude of blasé indifference. john k 17:51, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Eh, talking down to you would suggest that I thought my silly imaginary online position of "Administrator of Wikipedia" was actually meaningful, and thus would make me less cool. Part of being cool would have to be with the not giving a damn. Also with the not constantly talking about how I want people to think I'm cool. Also, probably, not editing wikipedia would help with the coolness. john k 18:06, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 30th Street Station Image

I realize the image I posted was not favorable. I do, however, think that the kind of security present there is a concern that should be recognized. A train station should have some level of security, not sleeping security guards. I did not visit intending to find something like that. [edit] Talkaudio Deletion

Hello, thanks for your comments on my Talk page. I saw that you deleted the "Talkaudio" Wikipedia page, and believe that the page does have a right to exist. There was a "Notability" tag on the article which I removed as I believe I had established Notability in the article, was this a mistake?

In summary, reasons for noteability:-

- Coverage by "The Telegraph" in November 2004 (UK National newspaper article)
- Coverage by "Total Car Audio" (UK Car Audio magazine with national distribution
- Coverage of several members vehicles by "Fast Car Magazine" including references to Talkadio
- Coverage of several members vehicles by "Max Power Magazine" including references to Talkadio

These are all independent periodical publications.

I would appreciate it if the article could be re-instated, and welcome your help, comments and suggestions for the page.

[edit] Concordia Newsletter

NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

[edit] Help out now!

  • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
  • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
  • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
  • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
  • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

[edit] Decision Making

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

[edit] Victor kadungure

Hello. Victor kadungure is not a candidate for CSD G4 as that only applies to XfD-deleted articles, not to speedily deleted ones. Still a speedy candidate though: I changed it to A7. Cheers! Angus McLellan (Talk) 18:11, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

If the deletion log lists a WP:CSD - A7 or whatever - then a G4 tag is not appropriate. If, on the other hand, the deletion log looks like this, a G4 is in order. Hope this helps. Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:16, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Falsely accuse

Then i stand corrected. I am absolutely annoyed because user:Oden is a little power-driven mad to do whatever it takes to trash this user: YuRiPa in public. Whatever this user has done, Oden is determined to do whatever it takes to accuse anyone who contributes to that article as sockpuppeteers? What kind of logic is that? Yes, i claimed that i am a frequent flyer of SIA, and when i browsed through the Singapore Airlines article, I went to the link of Singapore Girl and I was amazed to find there is an article about that subject. I look through the previous edited pages and i wonder why would anyone delete that segment of Symbol of SIA cos it is after all self explanatory that the Singapore Girl is the symbol of SIA.

When i revert the pages, i discovered only later Oden tagged me as a sockpuppeteer along with other list of names like IanFuller and Shimmer77. I do not know who are these people or whether do they belong to one person, i do not know. But can i firmly say that juz because i am editing an article on the subject i like for the first time and i am accused of sockpuppetry. I do not feel this is reasonable at all! Of course i was pissed when click onto the case whereby Oden made a suspect list and i am one of them. Once this is settle could you please tell him not to take it easy? Wikipedia is supposed to be a fun editing protocol with most accurate information without having to face disputes like this. Perhaps this carries on, then Wikipedia should seriously consider ffree editing brcause this will only caused more disputes and unfair justice treated towards newcomers. Please advise! Regards,Jetcali 17:59, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words and your smiley tags. If only there are nicies like you (nice people). ;) Wikipedia wouldn't be such a place whereby people get judged because they contribute to something. Regarding abt being personal, I did assume good faith, i did not do anything. Just a simple revert and i get blamed and accused for everything. If u have the time, could you advise Oden not to trash other users? When i browsed through that article, i strongly believe Yuripa started the article and then Oden disagreed and then made changes which made Yuripa mad, which caused Oden to write to Administrators to block her, ans then Yuripa got mad and prob create another account to counter attack or revert the changes made by Oden. I am not siding with anyone... perhaps Oden triggered the whole madness by making reverts and then with Yuripa retaliating.... i get pulled into this mess... Geeesh... i will take it easy but please tell Oden to take it easy too...

He is kinda scary in a way he uses tags and copied segments to provide evidence that is not necessary concrete at all! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jetcali (talkcontribs) 18:20, 27 December 2006.

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that Jetcali (talk · contribs) is a confirmed puppet account for YuRiPa (talk · contribs) (Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/YuRiPa (3rd)). Cheers! --Oden 09:58, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PennSix

Hi. My concern was and is that the group in question is not sufficiently notable as per the guidelines enunciated for musical groups. I'll give you some time to improve the article before bringing it to a deletion nomination. The best way to establish the notability of the article would be to find mulitple, non-trivial secondary and independent sources (books, newspaper articles, significant awards). The group's website is not sufficient. For example, if the claim that 100 people audition every year can be sourced to something other than the group's own website, that would be optimal. The point is that the information should be verifiable; anyone, even someone not a member of the group, should be able to research them and write the article, and they shouldn't have to rely on the group's own claims. Hope this helps, feel free to contact me with any more questions.

Your instinct to look for other sources is correct, but just asking the group themself for more information might not be the best way. Ask them if they know where this information has been published by independent sources, instead. savid@n 18:11, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: site, I take a particular interest in the mention of his Guinness World Record. The GWR site doesn't turn up any results for "juggling" or "kris kremo", but apparently the only people with access to all 40 000 records are UKers with cell phones (maybe you know someone who fits those criteria?). There's also the Juggler's World convention at which he appeared, coming from the same site used as a reference on other juggler pages. It is the same as in the case of say measurement units, or math, where each user may have its own conventions. However, in the case of the music terminology, I think some British folks may have moved the stuff. In simple cases, such as measurement units, and spelling of words, perhaps the Wiki software might become upgraded, giving readers a choice of alternatives. Haberg 20:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, deletion of user accounts is not possible. I've already renamed the user, and if they choose, they can request the deletion of the user and user talk page redirect. You're probably right that Jamesr1ley was editing from that IP at that time. However, he probably doesn't own that IP, and in a few days he might switch to a new one. Then another user would be associated with the Jamesr1ley account by their IP. That's why I don't think the IP user page should be redirected. Jhinman 07:17, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Messiaen's pupils

Hello. Thanks for your message. I don't argue that the list of pupils is entirely irrelevant. If I thought that I'd have boldly deleted them from Wikipedia altogether! I merely think that a long list of pupils is inappropriate for the lead paragraph, and that the direction it was potentially going in was the addition to the article of anyone who studied with Messiaen, however briefly or notably. I feel that his students Boulez (who was perhaps his most prominent champion, and who both commissioned works and arranged first performances), Loriod (obviously) and Benjamin (who has been closely associated with Messiaen's music, and who even helped complete one of his works) are definitely worth mentioning in the lead. However I even have my doubts about whether Stockhausen and Xenakis belong in the lead. I think Stockhausen and Xenakis should certainly be mentioned in the body of the article because they serve as examples of how Messiaen encouraged his students to find their own voices rather than imposing his own ideas. But what does the bare fact of his teaching of William Bolcom, Tristan Murail, Theodorakis (or Alexander Goehr or Karel Goeyvaerts for that matter) add to what we know about Messiaen? If it adds something, then we should be able to say what it is in each case. Otherwise we will end up with an indiscriminate list (edit summary: "if you can add Betsy Jolas then I can add Pia Sebastiani and Raffi Ourgandjian") - until we reach entirely non-notable Messiaen pupils. I think the place for such a list is in a separate list article (which is why I started one), not in an encyclopedia article about their teacher. I have taken the liberty of pasting your original message to me and this reply onto the Messiaen talk page. Best wishes, --RobertGtalk 12:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dominance: ToE

I need help with this one, it's my first wiki article. I have a problem with finding sources that would make this product notable in your eyes. It is the first (and only so far) Croatian MPOG but there are no online articles stating that. What else can be done in order to verify that the game in question is notable? Please help, thank you in advance!

Edit: Concerning your comment on Image:Foto-dominance.jpg, I'm under the impression you did not check weather I made a response or addressed the issue (which I have, I have used appropriate licensing tag on the picture in question), and since that was your only response on my plea for help and clarification, I'm also under the impression you do not respect new users and that's the way things are done here.

I do not wish to troll. Please, help me clarify the issue of the Dominance: ToE page and let's put this behind us.

Update: Thank you for your help. Yes, I'm completely new to this and do not know the proper netiquette concerning posting. Anyway, as far as the Dominance: ToE article is concerned, I stated my case here, so you can feel free to either delete the article or leave it as it is. As soon as I get more information on the relevancy of the article, It will be posted but currently I have no such information. If you leave the page and do not delete it, I'll do my best to fix the issue with the picture (sorry about that too, haven't realized it was not fixed). Ivoelezovic 21:39, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nice ATT/Poll comment

Hi! Although I voted against all, I really liked your comment a lot - it is very insightful, and I agree with it almost completely. I wish it was reflected better in ATT, which might have happened if there was broader discussion during writing of it. As it is now, ATT has some serious flaws, and what is also troubling is the way it was suddenly presented to editors, thru the poll. For en even more extreme example, see Fringe theories link from it. It was just declared a guideline without even consulting other editors!?! It even further distances from your expressed view. At least I think so. Anyway, I found it interesting that even though our views seem to be so overlapping on this particular issue, that we voted completely opposite! Cheers. [edit] Help please - slander

You helped out with Architects Registration Board a short time ago. The web-link that Plasmon inserted might well offend ARB but that is no indication that AARUK provides anything other than useful and objective information. One of the criticisms frequently made of ARB in the UK architectural press that it over-regulates, and this is amply demonstrated by AARUK and the ARB's censorial intervention. The last comment appears slanderous - there is certainly no evidence to demonstrate that the contributors to AARUK are "disaffected". Can you block the site for a bit? Many thanks. [edit] Wikipedia_talk:Introduction

Huh? It was a cross-space redirect left from a move. Now it is empty so that it can be used for the purpose you describe. It has been used for moves and deleted afterward to remove the redirects numerous times. Any restorable content would just be redirects to various articles it temporarily housed and a few vandal edits. Carlossuarez46 16:52, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

The only edit in the last year and a half was to make a redirect to Richard Evans (British author), better that you edit that article than purely a redirect. Carlossuarez46 16:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

From the logs both contributions and deleted edits it does not appear that you have ever edited that page until you recreated it just now. Check your contributions, were the edits made to to Wikipedia:Introduction? Carlossuarez46 17:18, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

All Olympic athletes are notable, according to the WP:N sub-pages for sports. [4] Try to be a little more careful when tagging articles for speedy deletion. G11 is for blatant advertising only; that is, articles that say "we're the cheapest store in the world and our products are awesome, come visit us now!" Articles that merely describe a company without being overly promotional are not eligible for speedy deletion. Melsaran (talk) 17:38, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cite code

Howdy, I saw your work on referencing the Yawn articled; great work! I think the bit of code you were looking for to create several inline citations to the same footnote is <ref name=pandiculate/>. The ending slash makes it a footnote to the same citation as the first time the pandiculate ref is used. No need to have a second (closing) ref tag. More information on the use of Cite.php is at wikimedia:Extension:Cite/Cite.php. I went ahead and added it to the yawn article. Hope this helps. --TeaDrinker 19:13, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Perumkadavila

[edit] quick note about CSD G4

Hi. Please be aware that CSD criteria G4 (repost of deleted content) only applies to things that were deleted after an articles for deletion discussion. Speedily deleted or prodded articles that are reposted cannot be speedily deleted under G4, although usually the original deletion reason will still apply. Natalie 14:27, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CSD A7

Hi. I came across your speedy deletion tag on Gamay Trout and just wanted to point out to you that WP:CSD#A7 is specifically for people (individually or grouped) and websites. There is no consensus for speedily deleting other articles types under that criterion. As Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion/Explanations notes, other articles that fail to assert notability need to go through WP:PROD or WP:AFD. Thanks. :) --Moonriddengirl 13:49, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't know either, but that's the consensus. :) I have gnashed my teeth many a time over a patently improper article that doesn't fit any of the criteria. --Moonriddengirl 13:57, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Barnoldswick and Earby Times

Hi thanks for your comments about this article. 7500 readers may not, in your opinion, be a substantial figure and therefore not qualify as notable. However the newspaper has over 100 years of being in print, although I can't find any reliable web source for that fact. Therefore I will redirect the page to the Nelson Leader - as these share the same publisher and largely the same editorial team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Northernpeak (talkcontribs) 15:00, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cody moldan

Why would you waste your time removing the attack? It's still non-notable, and will be deleted soon. - CobaltBlueTony 16:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Because "soon" often ends up being far too long. There is no reason to leave the attack up so the kids can point out the page to their friends and make fun of the subject. Also, what makes you believe I thought he would be considered notable? The page was created for no other purpose than to disparage its subject. Removing the attack doesn't change that. --OnoremDil 16:37, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

A lot of users seem to think that because a character exists, Wikipedia is obligated to contain a biography for them. Heh.~ZytheTalk to me! 20:04, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Well, then take some sort of mediation against him, slap him with a 3RR or find a compromise where Superman X is covered under Superman in popular culture of Kon-El in other media. It's a common misconception Wikipedia is obliged to do character histories when in fact, it's only for real world notability.~ZytheTalk to me! 14:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Magnus Harmonica Corporation

Since you are determined to submit this article for deletion if I do not find more references, do you have any suggestions on how to find material on a small company that went under 30yrs ago? There is VERY little information available on-line or published. All the information on the page is either fact or was verified thru my personal collecion, (range, production date, color, etc). I could take pics of each model that I listed and post for verification but I'm out of ideas here... please help the new man out!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sixthstar (talkcontribs) 16:59, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Followup: Google and Yahoo will not yeild any additional results. I'm a musician and have studied Magnus for a long time and made many trips to the library and hall of records and just not enough information exists. You will agree there is a lot of garbage on here, and certainly less notable companies and topics, However I feel that they were a notable company, as they were the primary manufacturer of these electric chord organs (There are 32 listed on ebay and craigslist as we speak). But organized and verifiable information just does not exist easily, (fact just doesnt seem to cut it on here), which is why i hoped to start a wikipedia so others could find at least something to know they existed and get a few facts and specifications. I'm done on this topic, if you want it deleted then submit it... and deprive the 30yr defunct company a spot in the modern world... I dont even care anymore... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sixthstar (talkcontribs) 18:08, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
