The coat of arms of the Ukrainian SSR was adopted on March 14, 1919 by the government of the Ukrainian SSR. The coat of arms is based on the coat of arms of the Soviet Union. It features the hammer and sickle, the red star, a sun rise, and stalks of wheat on its outer rims. The rising sun stands for the future of the Ukrainian nation, the star as well as the hammer and sickle for the victory of communism and the "world-wide socialist community of states".

The slogan on the banner reads, "Proletarians of all countries, unite!" in both the Russian and Ukrainian languages. In the Ukrainian transliteration, the phrase was Пролетарі всіх країн, єднайтеся!

The name of the Ukrainian SSR is shown only in the Ukrainian language, and reads Українська PCP (Українська Радянська Соціалістична Республіка, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic).

The emblem was changed in 1992 to the present trident coat of arms of Ukraine, first proposed in 1917.
