The coat of arms of Transnistria is a remodeled version of the former Moldavian SSR coat of arms that was substituted by the internationally-recognized Moldovan government after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Most commonly known in English as Transnistria, its official acronym is substituted on the banner from the original Soviet-era text- Pridnestróvskaia Moldávskaia Respública (Moldovan: Република Молдовеняскэ Нистрянэ, Russian: Приднестровская Молдавская Республика, Ukrainian: Придністровська Молдавська Республіка, ПМР) per the Constitution of Transnistria. This is abbreviated PMR in Moldovan, and appears as ПМР on both left and right, as the acronym is the same in Russian and Ukrainian.
