Coat of arms of Ålesund

The coat of arms of Ålesund was approved by Royal Resolution on April 1, 1898. It was created by the artist Andreas Bloch (1860-1917). The motif, a fishing boat described in 1762 on Sunnmøre, alludes to the city's history and commerce.
