Coal India Limited (CIL) It is wholly owned Government of India company, under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal, involved in the mining and production of coal.
Coal India Limited was formed in 1975 as holding Company with 9 subsidiaries viz. Bharat Coking Coal Limited BCCL), Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) and Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL). Several years later, three more subsidiaries were added viz. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and North Eastern Coalfields Limited (NECL),Northern Coalfields Limited,Singrauli NCL,Singrauli.
