Coal Creek, British Columbia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coal Creek is a ghost town near Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. Everybody left the town in the 1950s due to the closure of a huge mine. Today, people go up to Coal Creek for The Coal Creek Picnic (2nd week in July), some dirt bike/bike, and quad trails, and for historic places. There is a myth that if you go on top Coal Creek Mountain it's very hot, because there was a big mine disaster on May 22, 1902 (the worst Mine Disaster in British Columbia). There is also Coal Creek that joins the Elk River in Fernie, British Columbia. Coal Creek Mountain is right by Castle Mountain near Fernie, British Columbia
