CMUD is a MUD client developed by Zugg Software, who also developed zMUD. As the successor to zMUD, CMUD can be described as a rewrite and expansion on many of zMUD's features (MUD eXtension Protocol (MXP), MUD Sound Protocol (MSP) and the MUD Compression Protocol (MCCP), mapping, database support.

The origin's of "Chiara" comes from the online alias of Zugg's wife, to whom he announced the dedication of the project to on her birthday.
Before the announcement the project was entitled "zMUDXP".
