Biography: Chigozie Okonkwo (Chigo)
Chigo Okonkwo graduated from the University of Essex in 2001 with BEng in Electronic Engineering. Due to the downturn in the industry , he decided to enrol in an MSc degree in Telecommunications and Information Systems, he graduated in summer 2002. This course set the precedent for his career in academia. He was later to focus on the research and development of Core Transport Networks at the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering, University of Essex.
In 2004, after a brief period working for Vodafone Plc, he joined the Photonics Research Group within the Dept of Computing and Electronic Systems (CES) in Jan 2004. He joined as a Research Assistant on a project funded by the Department of Trade and Industry DTIpartnered with Marconi Corp bought by Ericsson in 2005. Under the supervision of two experts with more than 10 years of experience in the field, he hopes to contribute to this field. He is currently working towards his Ph.D with focus on the development of Advanced Optical Networking Techniques such as Optical Burst and Optical Circuit switched networks, Control and Management Plane Protocols, Simulation techniques for application and network modelling and studying the evolution from today's core transport networks (based on SDH) to All-Optical Networks which could be economically viable for deployment in the next 5-10 years.
He is currently working on a number of projects including the DTI/EPSRC funded (Heterogeneous IP Networks) HIPNET. This work focuses on the validation of complex systems, in this case the interaction and control of different access and core transport layers and technologies. The impact on current and future applications (EScience and EHealth applications) are areas of interest.
