[edit] Original uploader

Doesn't MediaWiki usually preserve the orginal uploader info automatically, even when the image is changed or adjusted? It seems strange to need to add it manually. It was good of you to do so, however. --GentlemanGhost 05:07, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

I do it so it's immediately clear. If there turns out to be a problem with the image later, the original uploader should be notified, not me. It's unrealistic to expect someone to search through the history to double-check that the person listed as the uploader of the only current version of the image is also the original uploader. Of course they would assume I'm the original uploader if I didn't make it explicitly clear that someone else is. —Angr 06:05, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. I guess I'm confused. When I have uploaded modified versions on top of images that someone else uploaded first, it has preserved the original uploader's name automatically. This is the only time I've seen where that hasn't been the case. Did someone remove that information? I'm just trying to understand. Thanks for your help! --GentlemanGhost 19:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
I deleted the old version myself (I can do that because I'm an admin). If I hadn't, the original uploader's name would have been preserved. But that would also have made it possible for someone to revert to the large-resolution version. Since that is a policy violation, I deleted the large-res version so it's not available anymore. —Angr 20:01, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Aha! Much is explained! Thanks for taking the time to do so! --GentlemanGhost 22:19, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
