Re:wow
Top notch job on WP: S GAMES's page. Really I'm amazed. Can I make one suggestion though? Maybe include the talk page link between main and particpants as one of the tabs? Just an idea.--Clyde (talk) 16:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Did you want me just to include a link to the pre-existing talk page or create a new one? It seems that the former option would be best, but then it could be arguable whether it is really needed (though I could see how it would help). Either way I wouldn't mind doing it--just let me know. Also, thanks for compliment. Like I said though on the talk page, I more or less borrowed what the Central Asia Wikiproject already had. b_cubed 20:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey Ikiroid, my past experience with you has been that you are a good enough writer to bring an article up to FA. I know that video games aren't your style, but I have an article in an FAC, 1080° Snowboarding, that needs a copyeditor real bad. If you have time, could you take a look at it?--Clyde (talk) 15:49, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Clyde—sorry it has taken so long, but I've finally gotten around to copyediting the article you have up at FAC. It is well-referenced and complete in its coverage, the only real problems are purely stylistic insofar as I can see. It's hard to describe the problem, because it really boils down to word flow and syntax. You need to link sentences together, lest they end up sounding like a bulleted list. Be wary of repeating the same sentence pattern over and over or beginning two sentences the same way. Also, keep in mind the order of topics—you mentioned development, release, and then more about development after the section on its release. If you work out these kinks, you should be fine. Do tell me if you need work or advice on a specific part (I'll be happy to give it) but I think this FAC will pass, or at least reach a close "no consensus." The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 21:48, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well actually there's two problems I have. One is removing uneeded and redundant words from sentences (I tried and could use another eyes) and switching the article from passive voice to active voice. I'm going to try it myself, but if you can help me at all that would be great.--Clyde (talk) 22:42, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
WP:S GAMES
Hiya Clyde. When you get the chance, could you please answer this question for me. Thanks! G1ggy! Review me! 00:17, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm guessing you are refering to "How does one define which articles are top, high, mid, and low importance? There are a lot that aren't assessed, and I'd like to run a backlog drive, but I'm not clear on which is which....". The discussion was between me and Big O here. The inclusion is based on important articles and a few well written ones, so base the importance of the inclusion on the quality and the notablity of the article. You'll find a lot of random and weird games, most of which are low. It might be good to have an entire wikiproject discussion on it.--Clyde (talk) 01:38, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- yeah, that question. Dunno why the link didn't work...anyways, I tried to get a whole project discussion but no answers so far. From the convo with AO, I gathered that all super-popular/old-and-very-important games are top, whereas all random unpopular games are low priority, whilst the rest falls in between? G1ggy! Review me! 02:38, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
References for 1080
I don't know if you play video games, but I said in the article if you lose, you restart. How excatly do I reference that? I have heard of referencing the game itself, but I've only done that once before quite a while ago, and I don't remember how. Otherwise I don't know many people who would challenge "the player must retire and restart the race." Do you think I should reference the game anyway?--Clyde (talk) 04:48, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Try using Wikipedia:Citation templates and use the template and cite the manual. — BQZip01 — talk 04:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- I don't own the manual, but I will see what I can do. Maybe even open it up to VG if they know a website that has photocopies of manuals, I'm not sure.--Clyde (talk) 22:41, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- I suppose you can reference the game if it has some sort of tutorial or how-to screen, but otherwise I'd really rather see the manual referenced since the game itself really doesn't give you that information (kinda like driving a car: if you turn the wheel right, the vehicle turns right, but you can't just say the car does that. Your should reference the manual or a general driving instruction pamphlet). — BQZip01 — talk 01:55, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with you (I completely forgot about the manual), and would prefer to have it, read through it, add more to gameplay, and properly cite things using the manual. I'm still looking around, and I would almost being willing to pay the 99 cents to buy it off of ebay.--Clyde (talk) 03:47, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

GCOTW
Hey Jaco I know the GCotW is for stubs or articles in need of cleanup, but do you think it would be a good idea to finish with video game per this? I dunno, seems fitting.--Clyde (talk) 20:48, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, the video game article would certainly be a great final GCOTW if we decide to shut down the project. However, I'm not "the boss", and the project can continue without me even if I think it should end. The community should decide. A Link to the Past has nominated an interesting article and if that becomes a successful collaboration then perhaps the project has a further lifeline. However, if the community does decide to end the project then I promise you that I'll unilaterally impose the video game article as the final collaboration :) ... You might want to put forward a proposal on the CVG talk page for the project to be transformed so that we focus on improving our essential articles, regardless of whether they are stubs. I have a suspicion that that might attract more contributors. Cheers, JACOPLANE • 2007-06-4 23:28

For your tireless work on Age of Mythology and AoM:TT, I award you this barnstar. Use it well! G1ggy! Review me! |

- You're joking, right? I'm sure you've gotten some before...if not, display it proudly on your userpage. Oh, and thanks for the....er....German guy! I added it to my awards page for some reason! Oh, and please sign your posts =P G1ggy! Review me! 00:23, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

- On another note, despite this, could I nominate you for RfA? I think you'd be a great sysop... G1ggy! Review me! 00:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- No joke. This is my first barnstar (BTW this is the second weirdest award I've given. I've also awarded someone a high five.) In regards to RFA, I must respectfully decline. I do not have enough experience with XFDs or vandalism yet, so I wouldn't have much use for the tools they would give me. Plus, I've done some other...weird stuff when I was a new user that would probably smack me down in an RFA. Personally, I don't think I'm ready. If I do, I would be honored to have you as a nominator though.--Clyde (talk) 00:35, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for the barnstar. It was a nice way to start an evening on Wikipedia. By the way, I found an even crazier talk page for an unreleased game: Godzilla: Unleashed. It got so bad they had to completely protect the article. It's so out of hand it's almost comical.--Clyde (talk) 17:42, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

On going "consensus" on SSBB talk page
I rarely go to the Talk:Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You should check it out, its like I'm discussing policy with 12-year-olds. Maybe I am? FMF|contact 02:29, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

- I wish this article could be better. I'm trying to assume good faith, but I'm not so confident in some people working on the page. I'm not saying that they're trying to hurt the article, but I'm more inclined to believe that some of the editors are some what inexperienced or only work on this particular article. --myselfalso 17:39, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

- Don't worry about it too much, you still have to get that 1080 article to FA ;) but its up to you. Its just probably full of junior-high schoolers from the NSider Forums who are inexperienced to editing Wikipedia. FMF|contact 18:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

My RfA
Dear Clyde Miller, thanks for your support in my recent RfA, it was, however, unsuccessful. I am not the type of editor to be disheartened by such a result, and have gained much experience. If you have anything to contribute by way of improvements or comments, please don’t hesitate to tell me.
I will run again. Until then, Cheers, Dfrg.msc 08:28, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Snowboarder
In the FAC for 1080° Snowboarding you gave me some help with the lead, and since then the article has had work done to it. Your finishing quote was "Not professionally written, neither here nor throughout." Since you wrote that, I have since acted and done some of your excersises improving and focusing the prose. At the urging of BQZip01, I converted the passive voice sentences in the article to active voice. I'm still looking for the manual of the game, but I was wondering if you have any more suggestions regarding the prose. I'm not asking for a copyedit or specific changes, and I know you're a busy man, but if you have time, could you give me some general tips, even on it's FAC page if you like (like section X and Y have structure problems etc). It would be appreciated.--Clyde (talk) 17:40, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- I think the FAC was closed, but I plan on nominating it again sometime in the future, and would like your approval if I do.--Clyde (talk) 17:45, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
1080 snowboarding
Well, it didn't get promoted, too bad. I'm sure it will eventually. I just wanted to thank you for asking for my assistance in the first place. I thought my copyediting skills were a lot better than they actually were (as I discovered during the FAC), but if I still managed to improve the quality of the article even a bit, I'm happy. I hope you are with my contributions to the article as well. Thanks again, and see you around. Green451 03:24, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help; it would have never made it as far as it did without it. I'll drop you a note if it's ever ready in the future to renominate. Until then, take care of yourself.--Clyde (talk) 18:18, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks. I'm actually at peace with it, and plan on nominating again. Probably work on the prose, and find the last reference I need first.--Clyde (talk) 18:12, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- If I may offer my , it may help you dramatically with simple spelling errors if you get Mozilla Firefox to use as your browser. I used IE for years up until a few weeks ago. If has spell checking embedded within the browser, so as you type, it will catch errors and underline them in red. Using your last post as an example, it would have underlined "grammer." To fix any word, all you have to do is right-click and select the word you meant. Just a little help for a fellow wikipedian. — BQZip01 — talk 18:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- I actually am using Mozilla Firefox right now. I don't know how updated it is, nor if I put certain settings that would disable spell check, but it doesn't work for me.--Clyde (talk) 18:31, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps you don't have the latest version? I have Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4 according to the Help->About window. As for turning it on, it only works in windows in "TEXT" modes where you are typing, not normal HTML browser output...so I guess it wouldn't have caught it. Oh well. — BQZip01 — talk 18:38, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Well folks, thanks to your reviews and comments, the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band is now a featured article on Wikipedia. It should take a day or so to update, but it's a done deal. Thanks for the help, Clyde Miller. — BQZip01 — talk 19:34, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey, thank you for prosifying this awfully named game's article. I've had my eye on it for a while, and will still be making adjustments, but you came in first and did a nice job. --Kizor 08:25, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for your concern. I'll be fine. While this spoiler mess is going on I may cause temporary damage to my keyboard or even have a suitably theatralic minor breakdown or two, but I'll be fine. I'm quite ridiculously stubborn, you know. --Kizor 22:30, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
