"Club at the End of the Street" is an up-beat song performed by Elton John. From the album Sleeping with the Past, the song describes a night on the town between two lovers at a disclosed nightclub. John also describes about the music of Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye being played. An interesting note is the video for the song was animated, due to Elton's involvement with the family of AIDS victim Ryan White. The record company demanded a video, but Elton was dedicated to spending time with Ryan. The single was a top-twenty hit in the US in the summer of 1990.
Of course, by the time of the song's release (May, 1990), Elton had already admitted to being a homosexual. Since the sex of the individuals meeting in the song is never mentioned, Club at the End of the Street could be considered an LGBT anthem[citation needed].
[edit] B-side
On the 7" release, the b-side of this single release was Elton's rendition of the well-known John Lennon song "Give Peace a Chance". The song is perhaps the most bizarre thing released by Elton[citation needed], a typical b-side song which basically is a mix between funny voices, playing "I Don't Wanna Go on with You Like That" in the background and mentioning various people as "The next contestants on 'making a b-side'". This song was also released on his 1990 box set, To Be Continued.
