Club Mahindra Holidays

In 1996, Mahindra Holidays & Resorts (popular under its flagship brand Club Mahindra Holidays) was founded to provide holidays on a timeshare basis. It is part of the Infrastructure Development division of Mahindra and Mahindra Limited.
Club Mahindra started with a single resort in Munnar and now, the company has 15 resorts in India and abroad. Recent reports suggest that the company is working towards acquiring and building additional resorts all over the world [1].
Club Mahindra is also an RCI affiliate. As of 2006, 4 of the Club Mahindra resorts were accredited with the RCI Gold Crown award. [2][3]

Timeshare was a new concept in India 15 years ago, and many marketers entered the game to make a quick buck. To make things worse, there was no legislation to protect investors and as a result the timeshare concept in India had a negative connotation.[4] However, in recent times, because of tighter regulations and protection to investors, the timeshare business is growing 25% year on year.[5]

Club Mahindra was set up in 1996 and their first resort at Munnar became operational the next year. Many were surprised that Mahindra which many consider to be a "Jeep and Tractor company" to get into the lifetime holiday business. It was part of diversification plan of Anand Mahindra, the group vice-chairman. [6]. The company recruited Ramesh Ramanathan as CEO to kickstart operations.

The company has targeted shorter vacation takers by offering Zest Holidays mainly for working professionals. [7].

Members complain of resort unavailability during peak seasons, and a waiting period for some of their resort destinations.
