[edit] History

Club Deportivo Marathón was founded on November 25, 1925 in San Pedro Sula by Eloy Montes and a group of his friends.[1] Ever since, Marathón has become one of the most prestigious clubs in Honduras winning multiple titles. They formed a rivalry in 1925 with Club Deportivo Olimpia which is known as the Clasico Nacional (National derdy). This match represents the rivalry between Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, the largest cities in Honduras.

In the near future, Marathón will be the only club in Honduras to own its personal stadium even if it's a relatively very small one. All the other stadiums in the league owned by the municipality which is the city's government.
