entry un my userpage

hi there, thanks for the generic welcome message. i might be activ in the english wiki so long, bit there's a few time i'm an author in the german one. so thanks for the explanation of server commands, but actually there's no need of it, cause they are the same ones like in the german wiki. and i never used the commands yet. so what have i done wrong? dont teat me like a noob. thanks again for the welcome. --Redlukas 14:41, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

sorry for my angry reaction, but i wasn't understanding tht the message was just part of a ceremony (some like this). we could do this in other wikis too. i'll talk to the admin. greez and thanks for explaining me the facts. --Redlukas 11:16, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Please Help! COTW!

I see that you actively help out on Wikipedia, that's great! I am asking for your help on the improvement and collaboration of the article Queen's University. It has been nominated for the Article Improvement Drive and needs votes! You can vote through the Talk:Queen's University. Your help would be awesome, and ask me for help anytime!!

P.S. Feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. --Speedystickd 23:43, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Spamming

Sorry if I caused any problems with my "spamming". I did not know this was against the rules. Anyway I was just trying to get the word out because this article needs another POV rather than just from obvious students who use this article as a stage for academic boosterism. We need a wide range of others who can provide a more balanced point of view about the institution, especially because of recent accusations of institutional racism, problems with student riots, and problems with alcohol. These problems are overshadowed by an elitist college riding on a reputation. Speedystickd 00:42, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Please take a look here, where a vote to prohibit solliciatation of votes in WP:AID failed 7-9. I also disagree with your notion this would constitute canvassing, since the votes on WP:AID are only support votes. And all that counts is the number of editors willing to make a contribution to that article. Canvassing involves support and oppose votes where a decision is reached upon the difference between support and oppose votes. Errabee 22:44, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, it is a clumsy attempt to draw votes, and this way of asking people to vote should be mildly discouraged. But there are other ways to ask for support. Messages on talk pages of portals or projects for instance. Speedystickd's way would only be disruptive if the targeted editors object to being asked to vote; asking for support on portal or project talk pages is never disruptive. Errabee 23:00, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Coffee COTW

I don't mean to come across as pompous, but I would actually like to add my vote for coffee. Speedystickd 03:04, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Happy Wikipedia Welcome!

ClockworkSoul, your page is crazy interesting, I'm glad you are on the welcoming committee, I have been a Wikimember for 5 mins. now and am overwhelmed with the different aspects of this entity. 2 quick questions: How do I delete gibberish in the sandbox (some vulgar writing and an external link which is at: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Please_leave_this_line_alone_%28emily_luvs_chocolate%29&action=edit ) and what does farc'd article mean? I'm guessing not Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia!! I hate not knowing new abbreviations...or else it's not new and I'm just out of it! Have a great day! Kanadajin 04:41, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Woah!

I just wanted to compliment you on your awesome User Page. I love it. Well, that's all, but I think it's really neat. Later--andrew 08:26, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome etc

Thanks for the welcome. I'm happy to help with Wikiproject:MCB, i'm a bit of a drive-by editor rather than a full author, but i'll do what i can. I see your a member of Wikiproject:Beer, as a keen brewer i'll have to have a look at that too. Xcomradex 08:52, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Since it's your baby i thought i'd comment here, the diagram in caffeine, do you think it needs the colours on the atoms? it is imo distracting, there has been some discussion on this sort of thing in some of the WP:Chemistry articles. You'd never see anything like it in the literature either. Just some thoughts from a chemistry perspective. Xcomradex 23:19, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough, if others like them they can stay. nice article all the same, i hope it gets on the main page sometime soon! Xcomradex 05:05, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Ditto the thanks! ShaiM 05:43, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Molecular and Cellular Biology

Hey, just noticed that you're working on bringing this back to life, and wanted to suggest that the guide to WikiProjects might contain some ideas you might be able to use. It's not finished, obviously—in particular, the sections about project growth haven't been written—but maybe there's something you would find useful anyways. :-) Kirill Lokshin 17:21, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for your help. Cheers. Speedystickd 23:01, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Who Broke The Links?

While cleaning up the molecular biology project page yesterday, you seem to have accidently broken some links. I tried to work out what was going on and fix it myself but got all confused (and lazy). Could you help? --Username132 (talk) 19:19, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

I managed to pluck up the energy to fix one, although I'm sure there was a second which I'm no longer able to find. Just keep a lookout for links on the project page that don't work anymore. That project is getting some much-needed rejouvenation (can't be bothered to look up spelling) though. --Username132 (talk) 20:09, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Project Cleanup

I've tried to join in the clean up by archiving stuff from the project discussion page to Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Molecular_and_Cellular_Biology/Discussion_Archive. I you agree, I propose that after I've finished the archive, you check it and I delete it and we can always call it back in the very unlikely event that someone want it. Alternatively, we could keep the archive. I've never archived before (aren't there bots for that sort of thing?) so I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm just trying to make that discussion page more usable.

Further, I think it might be an idea to separate the remaining topics of discussion to pages for proposals, announcements, requests for help etc. I think that currently a lack of commuincation might stiffle progress. --Username132 (talk) 20:49, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Wait, okay, I've changed my mind. I wont delete it. Some people might get upset... --Username132 (talk) 21:31, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Koala nuts

I was prodding this when you deleted it, but I think it should be observed that it was most probably not patent nonsense and ought not to have been speedied under G1 (or, for that matter, A1). As Wikipedia:Patent nonsense and Wikipedia:Hoaxes explain, hoax articles, at least those that are not unsalvageably incoherent, as was this, are not speediable and ought, IMHO, to be disposed of at AfD or PROD, toward which proposition see, e.g., Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive10#CSD G1. I don't imagine that G3 would be appropriate here either, even as the text is plainly apropos of a non-existent issue, but that's a discussion to which I don't imagine we need to get, if only because, to be sure, the project is in no way harmed—indeed, is bettered—by your having speedied the article. Nevertheless, the temptation to speedy or tag for speedy those articles about the ultimate fate of which one can be eminently sure notwithstanding, it is, IMHO, better, as regards speedy deletion, to err on the side of process than on the side of IAR. Again, no problem here, but it's something about which to think in general, I think [of course, there are many who don't share my view and think that discretion here should be wide, so you might do well to pay me no attention :)]... Joe 20:12, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks much for your response, which, in view of what I now recognize to have been the haughty tone of the message, wasn't necessary. In any event, you are quite right as regards IAR, etc., and my process wonkery is probably sometimes inconsistent with the broader goals of the project. In any event, I appreciate your time and, FWIW, apologize for the overbearing quality of my note... :) Joe 01:50, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
No, no, my inability to write succinctly and cogent rears, once more, its ugly head; the message referred to my heavy-handedness. Your reply, of course, was wholly decorous. Apologies once more for the confusion... Joe 19:01, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Are we ready to set up a vote for the MCB director? I suggest a prominent notice at the top of the main project page and on the announcements page. I would have started it myself already but I don't know what you have planned. --Username132 (talk) 16:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Mustard gas burns.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Mustard gas burns.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. This can't be the right license--the photographer of an 191x picture can't have died > 100 years ago. Molecular and Cellular Biology WikiProject Votes

The Molecular and Cellular Biology WikiProject has recently opened two surveys that will help to decide the direction of the project. First, nominations are currently being accepted for the position of coordinator of the project. Second, votes and additional suggestions for the official title of that position are also being taken. As a member of the project, we hope that you'll drop by and voice your opinion. – ClockworkSoul 03:51, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Evolution revert

Why did you rollback my revert on the Evolution article? This is the sentence you restored "It is from DNA sequence comparisons that figures such as the 95% similarity between humans and chimpanzees." This the sentence with my changes "It is from DNA sequence comparisons that figures such as the 95% similarity between humans and chimpanzees come." What vandalism do you see for using the rollback? Joelito (talk) 13:49, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree that come may not be the most elegant word to place at the end of that sentence but leaving the sentence without that word is gramatically incorrect. Maybe a better wording would be "It is from DNA sequence comparisons that figures such as the 95% similarity between humans and chimpanzees are obtained." September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!

Snowfire, I concur and I have thus eliminated the term ´´educated speakers´´ from the article. You were however incorrect to revert the article since the previous version implies that nobody uses the term ´´fraulein´´. I do not understand why you reverted the article when you could have simply made the correction. In the future, I would suggest more thorough research into articles before blindly performing reverts.

Admin question

Hi ClockworkSoul!
I want to ask an admin a question, and your name came to mind (I contributed to the Caffeine article). User:Trrbende added nonsense to an article, which I reverted twice, so the user swore at me on my user page. I looked at the Admin Noticeboard, and this simple scenario does not seem to meet the requirements for any of the sections: the only "warning" the user received was hardly appropriate (and was given after the edit to my user page, which also was not reverted, if in fact that edit was seen). I refuse in principle to give a no-personal-attacks warning when I'm the one attacked. (Also, it really isn't what I would define as a "personal attack".) All of this, simply to ask: can someone just block the account, or do we have to play games with templates? Thanks, –Outriggr § 23:22, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you! I'll go to the noticeboard next time, but the warnings to "post in the right place" kind of turned me away. Cheers, –Outriggr § 02:52, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Working Man's Barnstar and Barnstar of Diligence

Hi! evrik suggested I contact you since you're associated with WikiProject Awards. After some discussion about changing the name of the "Working Man's Barnstar" to something gender inclusive, we realized that there is not much distinction between "Working Man's Barnstar" and the "Barnstar of Diligence". In order to avoid an overly-PC rename of "Working Man's", and given that there's not much difference between the two anyway, I thought it'd be best to conflate the two awards and have only "The Barnstar of Diligence." Your opinion on the matter would be much appreciated! The discussion can be found here. Cheers! -- Merope Talk 17:44, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Assessment of MCB articles

Hi Clockwork, I haven't quite understood the assessment list yet. From what I understood we are supposed to tag MCB-related articles on their talk page if they aren't in the list yet. But are we also supposed to rate their importance and current state ourselves or not? Maybe you have noticed I added a few articles to the list and in those cases I also gave them a rating but I saw some people adding articles to the list and leave the assessment blank. So, what are we supposed to do? Also, do you use some kind of bot to create the list? Would that mean that adding a tag to the talk page of the corresponding article is enough and from time to time your bot would update the list?? Thanks, Splette Image:Happyjoe.jpg Talk 19:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

MCB Page redesign

Good work on the redesign - I think it now better reflects the mix of cell biology, molecular biology, and protein chemistry that is the main directions that MCB project members are following. While much of my main research focuses onbone, orthopaedics, drugs, etc., I tend to spend most of my edit time fixing up basic cell biology such as cell culture, immunostaining, etc.

I think I'll spend the time (when I have it) fxing up the stem cell field a bit more. Many of the articles I looked at recently multipotency vs pluripotency, progenitor cell, etc. were either stubs or contained incorrect information.

Part of the challenge I think for the Wikiproject (which you will be coordinator for) will be keeping the right level of depth. It is tempting to put in a lot of detail (e.g. recent changes to glycolysis). I have a PhD in biochemistry and molecular genetics, and I find that page heavy going! I reckon the average lay person would find it incomprehensible.

Enough of a rant. Thanks again for making the MCB page less protein-obsessed! Dr Aaron 07:06, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Request for help!

Hi Clockwork,

I’m sending this message out to about 4-5 people I’ve worked with here on Wikipedia. I've done a few diagrams with/in concjuction with the MCB project. This isn't a blind carbon copy to 1000 people. Sorry its only partially wiki-related...

Basically as you probably know I make a lot of diagrams for use on Wikipedia in my spare time while studying a Biochemistry BSc (hons) degree at the University of Sussex in the UK. Next year (in my final year) I’m planning on starting up a medical graphics company. Its been suggested to me more than once that some of my diagrams are as good as, if not better than those presently in research papers and text books, so it seems like a good logical progression (and more so something I enjoy!) to start up a company producing them.

But without a reputation, and as a nameless student work will be stagnant or non-existent. So I’m desperately trying to make a small name for myself and to build a credible reputation as both a scientist and artist. So to cut to the chase what I’m messaging people about is just to say please please please, if you or any of your colleagues are publishing research articles/text books etc. and need bespoke diagrams please get them in touch, I would be forever grateful! I’m very very happy to do the jobs for free as I enjoy them anyway and the exposure would help me no end! They have nothing to lose, if they don’t like what I produce its not like they paid for it, and are under no obligation to use it. I can’t stress how helpful a diagram in a published work would be for me. I do have a portfolio of generally better work than the pics here on Wikipedia, but examples to show colleagues are those such as:

”Caeliac Disease, Upper Jejunal Mucoasl Immunopathology”

Anyway, as always if you need any diagrams done here on Wikipedia, I’m an email away! If you do by any chance know of anyone seeking a scientist/artist then please be sure to get them onto me! (My email is nick-daines@hotmail.com). Thanks!

Hi Clockwork, thanks so much for your reply. You have no idea just how happy I am to hear that! I'd be absolutely honoured. I'll take a look at whatever images I can find, beg, steal or borrow! The sooner I know what exactly you'd like me to draw the better. It gives us more time for trial and error progressive improvement. Any sketches on A4 paper, scanned, any Microsoft Paint musings etc. are all helpful! Again thanks so much clockwork. Any future correspondance regarding it may be more rapid through my email which is above. Ta WikipedianProlific(Talk) 18:46, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Asian giant hornet

Hi, I noticed you added the great wasp (yellowjacket) image to the Asian giant hornet article. To me, it seems to add some confusion:

  • it's the only image, so folk will think that's what they look like that
  • it's not clearly disambiguated that it's a yellowjacket and not an AGH (pardon abbrev.!)
either of the two above would fix it.
I see that the image is up for picture of the day. Be good to fix it before that - a nice pic would be best (none on the German or Polish versions) Widefox 01:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Molecular and Cellular Biology Wikiproject Newsletter

The project main page has gotten a facelift!
When people visit the project, the very first thing that they see tends to be the project's main page, and with this in mind, the main page has been completely overhauled. To enhance readability the various "goals" sections have been merged, and a detailed "how you can help" section has been added. To increase accessibility for more established members, the links to any resources that were in the main body text have been moved onto the navigation bar on the right. Finally, the whole page has been nicely laid out and given a nice attractive look.
New project feature: peer review
I'm proud to announce the addition of out newest feature: peer review! The MCB peer review feature aims serve as a stepping stone to improve articles to featured article status by allowing editors to request the opinions of other members about articles that they might not otherwise see or contribute to.
Project progress
The article worklist
We’ve had quite a bit of progress on the worklist article in the past month. Not only has the list itself nearly doubled in size from 143 to 365 entries, but an amazing three articles have been advanced to FA status, thanks in great part to the efforts of our very own TimVickers! Remember, the state of the worklist is the closest thing we have to quantifying the progress of the project, so if you get the chance, please take a look at the list, pick a favorite article, and improve it!
Collaboration of the Month
Last month's Collaboration of the Month, cell nucleus, was a terrific success! In one month, the article went from a dismal stub to an A-class article. Many thanks to all of the collaborators who contributed, especially ShaiM, who took on the greatest part of the burden. This month's Collaboration of the Month, adenosine triphosphate, isn't getting nearly the attention of its predecessor, so if you can, please lend a hand!
Finally...
The project has a new coordinator, ClockworkSoul! The role - my role - of coordinator will be to harmonize the project's common efforts, in part by organizing the various tasks required to make the project run as smoothly and completely as possible. Many thanks to those who supported me and those participated in the selection process.
ClockworkSoul, project coordinator

Deletion review: web operating system

Dear User:ClockworkSoul, I'm not sure if this subject area interests you, but.. I'm looking to some of the members of the Wikipedia:Harmonious editing club for a review of an article that's having a wild ride into existance. If you can have a look at Web operating system it points to others like WebOS and Internet Operating Systems that some think it should be merged into. Many thanks for your time. - JohnPritchard 19:07, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

NKT

Hi there you offered some help and started to do so yet. Maybe the subject is too complex or something else. If you have some time I am happy if you can leave your comment/critics or further suggestion how to improve or correct the NKT article. Thank you very much. --Kt66 23:00, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Wow, someone is reading my phage edits :-P

Hey, and thanks for the welcome. If I'm already doing something wrong, please just tell me so I can improve... I'm out to improve bacteriophage, RNA viruses, and food microbiology content at this time. I was just at Stony Brook this summer for Evolution 2006... the campus is very futuristic. I don't even know how to describe the Wang center, a building with both a "chapel" and a "gift shop" that both are not fulfilling their purposes....

NKT again

Dear ClockworkSoul, did you read the replies to your latest comments on the NKT talk page? Did you notice the recent changes that were made to the article? In particular the new sentence in the introduction? Did you see the new section about the qualifications (or rather lack of qualifications) Kt66 added? Please believe me when I say I don't mind an article on the NKT that mentions criticism but what is happening here is simply not fair. Would it be possible to delete the current article and ask an administrator to write a new article? Only the administrator should be allowed to edit the article. He could receive advice from the users on the talk page. The article should then be blocked to prevent any further changes. Would such a procedure be possible on WP at all??? Otherwise, I think we should follow Jimmy Wales advice and have no article on the NKT at all rather than one that is a constant battle ground for partisans. Do you have any other ideas? Please think about your responsibility as an WP administrator. Thank you. Marpa 21:42, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

I just noticed that the administrator Amerique will propose the NKT article for deletion on Monday. Could you please join the discussion following the nomination? Thanks. Marpa 22:15, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hey there, just wanted to say thanks for the restoration effort for Wikipedia:WikiProject Viruses. I created the project a while ago because, like you, I thought it was an important topic that needed to be addressed better on Wikipedia. I've since been involved with a few other projects, and I'm just starting to get back into Wikipedia after a fairly long period of reduced editing, so I'm glad to see that better people have taken over! -Frazzydee| 02:39, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

The controversy...

Hi there - I'm back from my research conference & back to doing some wikipedia entries. Funnily enough, a girl at the conference came up to me at after dinner drinks and asked me if I was "Dr Aaron" from wikipedia. Ha ha.

If you get a chance, I'd be interested on your opinion of my revision attempts on the Stem cell controversy. I'm not sure if it should be an MCB article & get graded. Also, I'm not an archiving expert, but I certainly think the discussion page needs an archive - and I don't know how to do it?

Cheers, Dr Aaron 11:14, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
