Hello from the Mediation Committee

Dear Mediators Emeriti:

I'm writing to all former/inactive mediators (now called "Mediators Emeriti" to emphasize the ability of any mediator to return at will to active participation on the Committee), to encourage each of you to share your wisdom and experience on the Committee by commenting on requests by new individuals to join the Committee.

The current Committee respects and appreciates the time you spent on the Committee, and the insight you can provide, and encourages you to take part in these discussions. Additionally, any mediator emeritus who has the time and would like to return to active mediation would be welcomed with great enthusiasm.

Yours respectfully, Essjay (TalkConnect) 02:26, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

(I recognize that many of you left the Committee to go on to other responsibilities, particularly Arbitration and the Board, but we still welcome your input on new committee members and encourage your participation. Please don't feel guilty if you cannot participate; we just want to remind everyone that they are welcome to do so.)

A smile for you

Quotes for Nuclear program of Iran

As user:Dmoss, you've contributed several times to Nuclear program of Iran. Now much of that has been moved over to Iran and weapons of mass destruction. Some questions before us are (1) are the Brzezinski and Vanunu quotes unbalanced by, say, a Kissinger quote, and (2) do they belong in the latter article? I'd appreciate your input. Favorite Songs

My survey has changed. I am now continuing my mission for the best songs, but now I am accepting all genres. I'm giving you a chance to revote for your top ten favorite songs of any genres (not just classic rock which is still the best). I've made a executive decision to keep the existing survey results and just add on to that with the new entries. My feeling for doing this is because classic rock is the most influential genre in music currently so it should be expressed more in the survey. Thank you for contributing in the past, and hopefully in the future. ROCK ON. RENTASTRAWBERRY FOR LET? röck 03:24, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Beer and more

Hi - nice to see you're still keeping an eye on the beer. Anyway - there is a user: User:Wikwobble who feels I have been treating him harshly because I have been editing and largely removing his gluten free beer content from the main beer page and a few other articles, and some links to a website which reviews gluten free beer. I have been encouraging him to work on the main Gluten free beer article, and he is doing good work on that. But he is still aggrieved with me because of my previous and continued edits of his material. He feels very strongly that I am bullying him. I may be too close to it to be looking at the situation objectively. Here is the archive of his talk page: User talk:Wikwobble/Archive1. Would you do me a favour and cask your eye over our edits and talk pages to see if I am victimising him. Cheers! SilkTork 16:21, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I'll be happy to take a look. – ClockworkSoul 13:12, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

I am very pleased to see the above comment, and believe it shows a positive development. I must add that I think only my post has led to this reflexive consideration, which I am grateful for. I also appreciate your positive comments. However, it is the following around to my areas of expertise, where this user has never before ventured, and the undiscussed reversals that I found so frustrating. We can argue, and I think have, which specialist interest or beer review sites should be listed on the beer article. I am happier for disagreement here than arguments about coeliacs or Duhring's Disease, but even there the user's comments are of course valid, but unconsidered and undiscussed reversals are less easy to comprehend.

I still do not agree with the user's comments on the beer discussion, but since my appeal for help, the user is now entertaining a conversation, for which I am relieved. That is not to say I agree with him, naturally, but that is tough luck on me. I only asked for openness and a fair hearing. It seems that I am now worthy of such, for which I am definitely grateful, and without the overview of others perhaps it would have taken longer to get from there to here. I will remove the relevant appeals once I am sure that my work will be hatcheted and butchered, but hatcheted and butchered with a degree of transparency and good-natured verisimilitude. However, I think the user's attitude is moving towards one which I can work with, and I long ago offered to send him a bottle-conditioned gluten free real ale, and intend to keep that promise. Were you based in the UK, I would offer you the same, but I have no intention of falling foul of US customs, as I understand the positive noises on the bottle's label makes it unacceptable in the US, for which many US Gluten-free drinkers have to suffer.

Thank you you for your time observing the matter, I wish you happy drinking, even though you are not allowed to enjoy the real stuff! User:Wikwobble

Hey, You're Back

Greetings, Clockwork!
I've been away for about six weeks and in poking around saw you'd come back after an absence. Good to see you. Iam pleased to see some of my articles have been patrolled in my absence (e.g. Katie Holmes) so that's reassuring. How are you doing? PedanticallySpeaking 16:47, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Ross Petot

Hi, I noticed that you deleted the "new" article on Ross Petot and stated that it was deleted because it was a recreation of a deleted article. The problem with that is, I recreated the article because I saw it the other day as a stub and planned on adding to it and when I returned it was gone! The article I wrote was better and gave more information. It was not the same article and Ross Petot is a notable piano player of the stride and ragtime style. Why is there such a problem? I'd like to be allowed to repost an article on this great artist but I'm afraid that it will keep being removed. Why can't it be voted on instead of being removed before it can be added to or improved? Please let me know what to do as everyone seems so adamant and unfriendly. Dwain 18:30, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

RE: Johnny Lee Clary - Please help

Hey there, my name is Nick, my username is Potters house and I have encountered a problem with trying to provide any information about Johnny Lee Clary. I have posted this post off to other staff members also. I am not sure if this is the best route to resolve this, but can think of no other way.

The article Johnny Lee Clary has been deleted. I have known Johnny through telephone conversations and email for a short time now (about 3-4 months). He recently came and shared his life story in for our church group for the first time just two weeks ago. Before I met Johnny I became interested in his story i.e. his conversion from the head of the KKK in the US, to being a Christian Minister who now teaches against race hate groups. I found the article Johnny Lee Clary as it still is today, deleted, except for some small talk. If you read the talk you see what I have said at the time (notice I have gotten no reply, probable my fault as I don’t know heaps about WIKI policy). From my understanding Johnny Lee Clary was posting as The KingOfDixie and looks like he tried to change a few things on Wiki concerning the KKK. While this is a controversial subject, Johnny being the former leader of the KKK would probably know a thing or two and be able to contibute, but that’s another story. He eventually made an article about himself i.e. Johnny Lee Clary. Johnny being quite new to Wiki and ignorant of rules of conduct found himself at odds with some admins and had his site deleted.

Whilst observing Johnny over the last 3-4 months I have noticed that he is very outspoken against race hate groups such as the Neo Nazis, Skinheads, KKK etc. This, more often than not, lands Johnny in the hot seat. He has experienced persecution from racist groups for his departure from the KKK and voiced opinions against these racist organizations on his webpage, www.xkkk.org. Johnny has also received multiple death threats.

Because of his bold stance against these racist groups Johnny has become accustomed to hatred directed at him by those same groups. Johnny concluded that perhaps the guy who deleted the page Johnny Lee Clary was a white supremist. I am hoping to clear this up. Before he told me this, I started to create J L Clary, after hearing nothing from posting in user talk on Johnny Lee Clary's article. I wasn't 10 minutes into the J L Clary article when it was issued a deletion notice, and then before I had time to reply (about 5 minutes) it was deleted! I was amazed. I told this to Johnny and he said the main reason he was told that he couldn't have an article was because he was not prominent enough.

Johnny has a very famous testimony and has been on multiple TV shows like Oprah, Donahue, Jerry Springer, etc, and even recently when he preached in our town he made front page news, a double spread on his life, and the local ABC interviewed him live, which is not bad for our town (LISMORE NSW Australia) See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history .

When David Wilkerson came to our town hardly anyone knew or cared, yet David Wilkerson is allowed an article (and rightfully so), but more people know of Johnny. As to whether he is famous or not, just Google search him and see all the TV interviews and radio interviews he does. He hangs with some of the most prominent Christian leaders in Australia. Besides this, just being the former KKK leader should be enough for an article (he doesn't even get a mention in the KKK one, and would be deleted). He was also a Pro Wrestler. So he is prominent in Christian circles, he is prominent amongst race hate groups, and he is also prominent in the WWE wrestling.

Johnny asked me to test the waters for him to see if he was being persecuted by someone from a race hate group. So I created some sites, John Clary Wade Watts and Operation Colorblind - the name of Johnny's Ministry. These have been fine until yesterday. I cannot understand why these sites are just issued a deletion notice? Just because they mention JLC? I was hoping to discuss these things but they are just deleted. The one on Wade Watts is about a black gospel preacher who was one of the leaders in the civil rights movement in the US and was good friends with Martin Luther King. He took Johnny Clary under his wing and even ordained Johnny as a minister (to this day Johnny is the only white man ordained in the All Black Baptist Church). But his article is up for deletion because I mentioned Clary and had a link.

That is why I am writing to you to see if you can help. It seems to me that the person(s) deleting all articles which even mention Johnny Lee Clary has an agenda. I thought that wikipedia admins had to keep a neutral stance on every article. It seems like this guy has a vendetta against JLC. Why delete the Wade Watts article. That is guilt by association and could be proof that all deletions are because of racial discrimination! I hope this is not the case and would think that it is politically motivated, as Johnny is a strong supporter of George Bush and Antaeus Feldspar of Kerry.

See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history This shows how Antaeus Feldspar supports Kerry, which is fine, but Johnny is a strong supporter of Bush.

My hope is that Johnny will be able to have an article like any other famous person, minister, former KKK leader, or pro wrestler, and that Johnny and anyone connected with him and his ministry will in future have certain rules set in place that do not allow the wholesale deletion of the articles associated with him, but that they will be at least discussed.

I thank you for reading this long winded post. I have only been using WIKI for about a year myself so I need your help, I don't really know what else to do. I hope you can help. I personally think that Johnny's story is one that is beneficial to the cause of reconciliation between races and to the3 unity of society as a whole. It would be a shame if WIKI became known for having covert racists. Of course I hope that this is a misunderstanding and that all will be cleared up soon.

Here are some links that might help.

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Automotive Barnstar?

Dear ClockworkSoul,

As indisputably one of the very best graphic artists on WP, whose great taste I admire greatly, you might interested in the fact that the WikiProject Automobiles is currently planning on adopting a Project-specifing Barnstar and seeking for an appropriate design. It would be most wonderful if you found it amusing to devote some of your previous time to develop a design you would like to propose for such a Barnstar.

In case you would be looking for inspiration, I have recently came across some photos of the Autobianchi Primula Coupé ([2], [3]) which show it with rims strangely resembling a six-spoke version of our Wikipedia Barnstar! Unfortunately the photos are very low-resolution, and my attempts to recreate it did not lead to any results worth mentioning, which is probably due to my puny skills in this area. Perhaps you might find it amusing to create a Primula Barnstar sitting comfortably within a cozy wheelwell? :D

Regardless of whether you find this interesting for you personally, perhaps you might think of some other talented graphic designers who might be interested, and either relay this message to them or suggest me to contact them?

Best regards,

Would you be so kind as to go to the discussion about the Islamic Wikiproject Award? This has been a proposal that has lingered for donkey's yonks. I think the image is acceptable as a WP:PUA, but don't think the image is in line with most of the images at Wikipedia:Wikiproject awards. The design is not well supported, and right before I was going to archive the debate for lack of support, someone else moved it to the Wikiproject awards page.

Caffeine intoxication

Thanks for adding to the article and leaving me a note on my talk page. What you wrote seems to be allright to me, although I had a hard time looking for actual treatment guidelines for it. I was wondering about the references you added: one is hebrew, one german and the other about preterm newborns. Do those references really apply here? Maybe your hebrew is better than mine, but in the english abstract of that article there isn't a lot of information... The case report about the premature neonate isn't really suitable for use here, as neonates may be treated completely different than normal adults, and moreover it is only a case report, it doesn't mention any guidelines for treatment. My german is a bit better than my hebrew, but I couldn't access the fulltext of that article, but I suspect that it isn't much more than a casereport either. --WS 16:11, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

I removed the references for now, as to me they don't seem to be supporting the text. --WS 11:57, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

User:King bugsy

I don't want to get into a revert war over something so trivial - but why are you blanking the talk page? I reverted to the state where nothing on the page was put there by King bugsy, and asked him to explain himself. Why did you remove that? --ajn (talk) 05:59, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

OK - forget the above comment (I think I was adding it as you were changing the talk page)! --ajn (talk) 06:01, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

About Cleanup

Hi, I wanted to ask about cleanup process.

For example can I remove this tag - when I finish doing it?--King bugsy 07:12, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

University

I am on the hunt for a user that is on for hours everyday, and one that works at a university or studies there. I need someone to send me papers because I can't subscribe to every single journal on the internet like universities do. That would be nice. :) Thanks, — [Mac Davis] (talk)

ClockworkSoul, I would like you to send me this paper[4] in PDF to my email address <removed by me>

Thanks, — [Mac Davis] (talk)

Sorry

I should have used the [rollback] (Reverted edits by). Button instead of [rollback (vandal)].--1568 06:51, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Molecular and Cellular Biology Wikiproject Newsletter!

We have a new newsletter!
As you've no doubt noticed, there's a new Molecular and Cellular Biology Wikiproject newsletter, which will be sent out about once a month to all WP:MCB members. This newsletter is designed to perform two equally important functions. Firstly (and obviously, perhaps) it will serve to inform the members of the MCB project of such things as important discussions, votes, and article improvement drives. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the periodic correspondance will hopefully encourage a greater level of participation from the MCB community by acting as a gentle reminder of many of the the interesting tasks that are awaiting completion. If you prefer to receive this newsletter in the form of a link, or not receive it at all, you can add your name at Wikipedia:WikiProject Molecular and Cellular Biology/Newsletter/Opt Out List.
New project feature: MCB Article Improvement Drive
Have any pet MCB subjects that you think need attention? Have you been longing to be part of a team of like-minded editors working toward a common goal? If so, the MCB Article Improvement Drive is for you! On the first of every month a new article is selected by the MCB with the goal of promoting it to good article status. Make your nominations and cast your votes now, because the first article will be chosen on September 1!
In an effort to organize and motivate the MCB activities, it has recently been proposed that a member of the MCB project take the role of "director", who would be responsible for the administrative side of the MCB project, including but not limited to coordinating recruiting efforts, spamming the newsletter, and maintaining the Article Improvement Drive and MCB Portal. A special discussion/vote page has been created for this proposal, and the vote will run until 23:59, 10 September 2006 (UTC), unless the community decides otherwise.
Odds and ends: what else you got?
Signed...

{{Wikiproject MCB}}

Hi,

I noticed you put this template in the article namespace of enzyme inhibitor: please put it on talk pages only not in the article itself!

--Steven Fruitsmaak (Talk) 14:24, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I noticed just now by looking at your contribs, sorry to overreact, you did a great job.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Talk) 14:28, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
