Talk:Clontarf parish
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Another inappropriate redirect, as this title applies to parishes of at least four Christian churches, at least one of which has 2-3 parishes in the area. Deletion seems best? Twilson r 17:18, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Technically speaking the only parish in Clontarf known as Clontarf Parish is the Church of Ireland parish and it actively uses the title. Known of the RC parishes are called this. The original redirect was in fact correct.
- The unsigned comment above, traceable to a user who is editing in a certain manner on just a couple of topics, shows a misunderstanding of search, and of encyclopedia article naming. Clontarf parish, or Parish, is a generic phrase, which could be, and is (I live locally) used about any of a number of faith communities. Wikipedia requires that articles be about specific topics, and use appropriately specific titles, and a generic such as "Clontarf church" or "Clontarf parish" is a perfect example of where disambiguation is needed. The current situation, with Church of Ireland Parish of Clontarf and Parish of Clontarf (RC) looks fine. And I have just checked my Diocesan Handbook and there are two RC parishes called Parish of Clontarf or more informally Clontarf Parish, with their saint name appended in brackets. - Further to above, I have read the RC article carefully, and as it covers history, it relates to the unqualified "Parish of Clontarf" in the original anyway. Tom 83.250.204.91 16:24, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
