I replaced the lost Category:Gay artists category assuming that since there's no comment here, it may have dropped out. I might have done it unintentionally, myself. Hmm, don't know why the footer link works but doesn't seem to work here.Julia Rossi (talk) 10:12, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

I removed the category because the article says absolutely zero about his sexual orientation. If he's gay, the article needs to say it and it has to be referenced. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 22:07, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Where it says "he lost a close companion" it was the 1940's and today we'd say his male lover died in action, but this is the best I could find since the film biography only went this far with other allusions such as "he's the nicest of the friends he brings home", his non interest in the girl next door and his reaction to the devastating loss of his lover. I have seen other articles where there's nothing about the person but the category due to lack of specifics in citation. What to do? It's still an important part of who he was as a man and as an artist. He was in every way pretty well oblique. Julia Rossi (talk) 22:19, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, being gay is still considered "controversial" by Wikipedia's standards, so having him in a gay category requires a reliable source. I did some research through Google Books and can't find any reference at all, even in books like "Out of the Celluloid Closet" or others like that. If a reliable source can be found, feel free to add him back to the cat, but I've removed it for now. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 15:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi, yes I guess that's so. Currently his notability is via his mother and being a rebel sculptor in a conservative minor state in Australia – not the sharpest profile to be had.
