[edit] Inter-county
Hennessy made his senior championship debut in the 2005 All-Ireland quarter-final against Cork. His big break came at the expense of the regular goalkeeper, Stephen Brenner, who was dropped in controversial circumstances. Waterford lost that day and Hennessy faced defeat by the Leesiders in subsequent years. In 2007 he won a National Hurling League medal following 'the Decies' victory over Kilkenny in the final. It was Waterford's first national title since 1963. Hennessy collected his first Munster title later that same year.
