Clifford Campbell

Sir Clifford Clarence Campbell (1892-1991) was the first Jamaican-born Governor-General of Jamaica. He served in that position from December 1, 1962, until March 2, 1973.
Sir Clifford, son of James Campbell and Blance Ruddock Campbell, was a school teacher and headmaster from Westmoreland Parish, Jamaica. He had been an activist of the Jamaica Labour Party, and had served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and later as president of the Senate, before being raised to the country's highest office a few months after independence.
