Cleveland Golf is an American golf company based in Huntington Beach, California. Cleveland is a premier golf brand. Cleveland is also one of the most popular brands on the PGA tour.
[edit] History
Originally founded in 1979 by namesake Roger Cleveland, Cleveland Golf started off as a company known for producing exquisite replicas of classic golf clubs from the 1940s and 1950's. Today, the company is regarded as one of the forerunners in product innovation and is home to the #1 Wedge in Golf.
Cleveland Golf has experienced extraordinary growth since the appointment of Greg Hopkins as president in 1997. Hopkins' goal was to move towards a product line that would make high performance equipment available to golfers at every level and increase visibility in the marketplace. He has thus far succeeded on both counts with products that feature such cutting edge technology as CMM metal, golf's first light density metal.
In the summer of 2005, Huntington Beach based Quiksilver acquired Cleveland Golf. This acquisition helped Quiksilver move into a leadership position in the outdoor sporting goods category. However, Quicksilver then sold the Cleveland Golf subsidiary to Japanese-based SRI Sports Limited on October 31, 2007.
With more than 325 employees in its Huntington Beach, California headquarters, Cleveland Golf has a U.S. sales force of 70 as well as 26 international distributors worldwide. As a sponsor of the Byron Nelson Championship and Cleveland Collegiate Palmetto Championship (University of South Carolina Aiken), Cleveland Golf is heavily involved in player development with support to junior, collegiate and developmental tour golf. The company is also title sponsor of an annual father-son tournament held at Pebble Beach and the Wee-ko-pa tournament held in Arizona. Some of the PGA Tour professionals that are proudly sponsored by Cleveland Golf include Bob Estes, Boo Weekley, Brett Wetterich, Craig Perks, Glen Day, Jerry Kelly, Joe Durant, Ken Duke, Kent Jones, Michael Putnam, Richard S. Johnson, Rod Pampling, Scott Gutschewski, Stephen Marino, Steve Flesch, Steve Lowery, Vijay Singh, Wes Short Jr., and Woody Austin. On the European tour David Howell. On the LPGA tour Erica Blasberg.
