Cleveland is a town in the Cleveland Township of Rowan County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 808 at the 2000 census.
It is named after Cleveland, England.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 808 people, 295 households, and 210 families residing in the town. The population density was 541.4 people per square mile (209.4/km²). There were 320 housing units at an average density of 214.4/sq mi (82.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 67.20% White, 30.07% African American, 0.25% from other races, and 2.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.99% of the population.
There were 295 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% were married couples living together, 15.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.8% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the town the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $38,456, and the median income for a family was $48,250. Males had a median income of $31,797 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,381. About 11.6% of families and 15.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.8% of those under age 18 and 14.1% of those age 65 or over.
