From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Clericus Cup is an international football tournament including Catholic priests and seminarians, held at Vatican City. There are 16 teams made up of the various catholic colleges and church congregations in Vatican City. There is also a team made up of the Pope's bodyguards, the Swiss guards. The first edition took place from February-May 2007; the second started on November 20, 2007, and will finish on May 3, 2008. In 2008 complaints of excessive noise led the tournament to ban fan usage of megaphones, drums, tambourines and boomboxes. This led to various media commentary[1][2][3] with one paper making comparison to the show Father Ted.[4]
