Cleophas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name "Cleophas" is used in English translations of the New Testament to render the two different names appearing in the Greek text:

  • Cleopas is mentioned as one of the two "disciples of Emmaus.
  • Clopas (also "Clophas") is mentioned in connection to Mary of Clopas, most probably her husband.

The bearers of these names have traditionally been identified with each other, resulting the translation under a single name.
