[edit] History

ClearSync was formally a freeware application named WeSync released in early 2000 by a venture-funded start-up in Portland, OR. Palm, Inc. purchased WeSync in February 2001 ([2]) and then passed it over to PalmSource, Inc. when it was spun off to take over the Palm OS operating system. Tanner Research, Inc. purchased WeSync from PalmSource in 2006 and renamed it ClearSync [3]. Since that time, several versions of ClearSync have been released with new features and interface as well as support for Mac and Linux/Unix operating systems [4].

[edit] Features

ClearSync allows users to create and share calendars and contacts, called resources. Sharing of resources occurs through the use of private “communities” within ClearSync’s online interface. Users must be invited to the community by the community creator and user information is hidden from public access. Once in a community, users may “subscribe” to any or all of the resources uploaded for sharing as well as upload their own.[5]

Many families have found ClearSync useful for family scheduling needs.[6]

[edit] Compatibility

ClearSync runs on any Windows, Macintosh, or Linux/Unix machine. ClearSync can be run from a desktop application or through any internet browser. ClearSync can also be accessed from any Palm OS Device.[7]

[edit] Versions

ClearSync offers new users a free 30-day trial. ClearSync is a subscription service with two levels of paid subscription. There is also a free version so that anyone can view shared calendars without paying. The various features can be viewed on the ClearSync feature chart.[8]
