[edit] Barnstar

The Working Man's Barnstar
You deserve at least some recognition for keeping the list of current world boxing champions up to date. east.718 13:39, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Super Middleweight champ

Hi - sorry if I am typing this in the wrong place - but why are many people under the impression that Joe Calzaghe is world IBF Super Middleweight Champion? - http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=boxing/06/03/05/BOXING_Calzaghe_Lead.html - I don't understand why there are different stories - and given that there appear to be, why you opted for Bute over Calzaghe? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dbeaumont (talkcontribs) 14:35, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Boxing champs

Hi Claude, since you and me are basically the only regular editors to the article, I thought I'd let you know about this—I don't know about how fast it's updated, but it's certainly been useful for me as I don't have to troll through all of BoxRec's fights for a certain date anymore. east.718 08:43, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Boxing

Negative, he hasn't vacated regardless of that, nor the OMB has stripped it he's going to do it however but hasn't done it, he is prancing around with both titles, pretty much like Floyd Mayweather who wasn't striped of his 147 title when he won another aganist De la Hoya, in that article he is even talking about defending both if possible (that's a big "if") but he's inclining to vacate the 105 one, however until he vacates the ist should reflect he is actually holding both as was the case with Mayweather. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:19, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Do you have conections in the OMB? regardless of that it would make sense, now all he is talking about is unification in the 108, as soon as its out on the press feel free to take it out. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:30, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
I always though that if a super champion went up in weight his status as super champion didn't go up with him since it was a different division than the one he did the previous defenses in, I guess we learn new things everyday. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:42, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Hey no worries, Wilfredo Vázquez, Jr. will beat both of their asses badly one day, there's no avoiding destiny, regards. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:46, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

See this and this for more info. Cheers!  east.718 at 05:52, September 16, 2007

[edit] Re: names

No worries. Boxrec is notoriously incomplete for a lot of things - it's a good quick reference for very high-profile boxers, but is best avoided for other things, especially Mexican and eastern European boxers. east.718 at 05:29, September 18, 2007

[edit] Re:

In both cases we should just sit and wait until something actually happens... I appreciate you going through the trouble of contacting The Ring, but we can't really do anything (see the policies on verifiability and crystalballing) until a source somewhere else states that it's already happened. east.718 at 13:38, September 26, 2007

See WP:CRYSTAL... I've been caught by this too. It may be impending that he will become the Ring champ, but he isn't until they actually publish something to that effect. east.718 at 17:31, September 30, 2007
I must not have been around for those title changes... either way, it's not a pressing matter and an incredibly lame thing thing to edit war over. New comments go at the bottom of talk pages, by the way. =) east.718 at 17:44, September 30, 2007
Well, the difference there is that the IBF title is tangible, as soon the belt changes hands we can update it. The Ring's championship is only an honorary appellation that changes hands only when the magazine updates their site or releases a new issue. east.718 at 17:48, September 30, 2007
I posted on WP:AN/I a while back but an admin didn't respond... and unfortunately, the page isn't vandalized frequently enough to warrant indefinite semi-protection. I can still try though. east.718 at 18:38, October 5, 2007

[edit] British Boxers

Since the Union Jack is still there, why complain about my fixings? GBR stands for Great Britain, where's UK stands for United Kingdom. The former (GBR) suggests the exclusion of Northern Ireland. GoodDay 18:15, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

I've been away for a few hours and have decided that if UK/GBR is going to be that big of deal with you guys (and myself), then I'll let it go. Bringing politics into sports (as I have) is a rocky road, one that's not neccessary. If you guys want to keep GBR, so be it, or if you want to restore England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, so be it. I must admit though, I am a little surprised by the reaction to UK. Oh well, can't win'em all. GoodDay 20:57, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
PS- Sorry about the stink I caused. Your guys are quite correct about GBR usage by IOC and ISO. Forgive my naivety and stubborness, here's hoping the boxing organizations reunite, so as there's one true champion (per division). GoodDay 21:58, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: VK

That wasn't really civil. :( Anyway, with Klitschko still hovering on the brink of activity, and the media still reporting that he is champ emeritus, I thought it would be OK. I checked the WBC site and saw you were right though. east.718 at 04:16, 10/21/2007

Thanks for the wishes. The last exchange wasn't a problem at all, it's just that I can detect sarcasm really well on the Internet. ;) east.718 at 12:50, 10/24/2007

[edit] Thanks!

[edit] Boxing

This is why I need to leave the updates up to you: [1] [2] Cheers, east.718 at 03:18, 11/11/2007

Let's keep the emeritus champions to active fighters. I've already added them into the page, feel free to revert if you disagree. east.718 at 16:17, 11/13/2007

[edit] December 2007

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! Brianga (talk) 07:05, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Four-star pics

Hi, first off I'd like to say that I appreciate you hard work in uploading new picture for the four-star bios, however the pictures that I have uploaded are current and up to date. come of the pictures you have uploaded are of lower quality. Please check them before you change them. Other than that, keep up the good work. Neovu79 (talk) 23:44, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Anthony Zinni

I will say this again...

You are free to upload new images. However, if you do upload a new image, please upload it under a file name that will not overwrite an existing image and change the file manually in the article if you want to change it. You are overwriting different images which can be used in articles. And, as I have already said, the image you are uploading over the 3-star portrait of Zinni has already been uploaded as Image:Anthony Zinni.jpg, so please do not upload duplicates. Try to find out if the images you are uploading are the same as existing images. If an image on the Commons or Wikipedia is identical, but lower res or poorly cropped, for example, then you should feel free to upload over it. However, you are deleting other people's work by overwriting different images.

Also, the purpose of the Wikimedia Commons is to create a repository of images, so having older photo portraits around is a good thing.

Again, if you feel an article should have a more recent image of someone, upload it under a file name that will not overwrite an existing image and change the file manually in the article. I appreciate that you are willing to upload images, but let's try to do it in the best way possible. Agreed? Please let me know if you still have questions. Thanks. --Tom (talk - email) 15:23, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for understanding. Again, let me know if you have any questions about uploading images to the Commons. --Tom (talk - email) 02:19, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Brian Magee and Damaen Kelly

they are both Irish and consider themselves Irish - and are legally entitled to do this under the Good Friday Agreement.--Vintagekits (talk) 13:14, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

No answer?--Vintagekits (talk) 11:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
List of IBO world champions - still no answer? Do not revert my edits unless you have address this issue.--Vintagekits (talk) 19:22, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

We list every weight class under ONE name, there is an extra table with all the different names for one weight class, see link at the bottom of the page. Concerning Arthur Abraham, he's got the german nationality since 2005. claudevsq (talk) 14:35, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Do "we" - where does it say that?--Vintagekits (talk) 19:23, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
"We" - the people that got featured list status for that list - as for example Maya Levy, the admins East718, CaribbeanHQ, myself... as for your northern Ireland flag, I don't give a damn personally, but you will see it reverted by someone else sooner or later... bet? claudevsq (talk) 13:02, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Whats the Flag of Northern Ireland?? If you can explain that to me then you can put it on every page on wikipedia with my blessing. When there are issues that you dont know about my father always told me it was best to keep your mouth shut at let people think you are an idiot rather than opening it and confirming the fact.
I also see you have reverted my edit without explaination or an edit summary. If you are trying to piss someone off and enflame an edit war then you are going about it the right way! However, instead of a revert war I suggest we avoid that and next time you get an itchy trigger finger then you take it to the talk page of the article so that it sorted out amicably there instead.
I have moved the discussion here so that it makes more sense and is kept in contexts. Can you please keep the discussion in one place, thank you.--Vintagekits (talk) 14:43, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Please explain this edit - I am getting pretty pissed off that you keep making that edit but fail to either give a reason for it or discuss the issue. --Vintagekits (talk) 15:32, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IBO

Are you blind? It was "Owain" that changed "ENG" and "WAL" to "UK" - I just changed "UK" to "GBR" - see ISO and IOC conventions, and don't talt to me that way, mothafucka. claudevsq (talk) 16:43, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Please keep all replies and messeges together - I have your talk page on my watchlist so I know when you reply, thanks. I am not talking about Owains edit I am talking about this edit. Please explain that.--Vintagekits (talk) 16:47, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Malawi is "MWI", just like all the other countries have 3 letters. And your changing from "NRI" to "IRE", I still don't get it... (unsigned by - Claudevsq)
PLEASE KEEP ALL REPLIES ON THIS PAGE - IF YOU DONT THEN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW THE CONVERSATION - I HAVE THIS TALK PAGE ON MY WATCH LIST SO KNOW WHEN YOU REPLY
If you dont understand it then why dont you just ask instead of changing it. If I dont understand something then I ask instead of getting involved in something I dont know about. If you do want to know why it was done then I suggest you read the following articles - 1. Good Friday Agreement, 2. Flag of Northern Ireland and 3. Northern Ireland flag issue - also note that there is no flag in the infobox of the Northern Ireland article - there is a reason for that! Kelly and Magee self identify as Irish not British, similar to that as John Duddy another boxer born in Northern Ireland - per the GFA they can be legally recognised as Irish not British. Now, I have outline the articles that you need to read to understand this issue - if you read them then you will understand, if you dont want to read them then please stop making incorrect edits. Any questions, just ask.--Vintagekits (talk) 16:58, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
What about John Lowey? (unsigned by - Claudevsq)
1. I wrote the article about Lowey, 2. I dont know Lowey's situation hence the reason I didnt touch him, 3. Did you read the three article I have outlined above. Is there anything you are unclear about? Finally, instead of being uncivil and uncooperative and labelling othewr editors as "vandals" I suggest the you engage in intelligent discussion to overcome issues. regards--Vintagekits (talk) 20:07, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

And how is it then that you have been blocked indefinitely? Go away from my talk page, sockpuppeteer! claudevsq (talk) 16:48, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

This is going to become an issue again. Myself and CHQ have gone through the issues at length here. Hopefully we can have a more rationale discussion than last time round. regards --Vintagekits (talk) 12:44, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem! Greetings, claudevsq (talk) 17:06, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question

I am a bit curious over this edit [3] I had changed it to the article's name a few hours before to avoid the redirect, the article's name excludes the "Angel" part based on naming convention, because he is more commonly known just as "Miguel Cotto" (he began using the 'Angel' part more frecuently around a year and a half ago), is there any particular reason bhind the edit? - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: List of current world boxing champions

Got the main troublemaker. Happy editing! east.718 at 22:17, February 21, 2008

[edit] Re: Ring magazine belt

Yeah, I've seen that belt for a few years now (Buffer usually refers to it as the "universally recognized" championship). Still, it's just an honorary title as The Ring doesn't actually sanction any fights. Happy editing! east.718 at 03:24, February 28, 2008

I'm as lost as you are. Let's see what new rules the sanctioning bodies manage to cook up now. :-D east.718 at 23:55, February 29, 2008

[edit] Calzaghe

The Ring definitely only ever have one title per boxer - see, for example, Mayweather, who was The Ring's junior welterweight champion until he moved up to welterweight - at that point, the junior welterweight title was vacated. Chances are they will vacate the super-middleweight title and bump Calzaghe to light-heavyweight, but until they update their rankings it's speculation, really. Neıl 14:01, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay, cool. I'll be really pissed off if the Ring don't update their rankings tomorrow now ... ;) Neıl 15:44, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
