Your work on the Michael Burns, Ph.D. article
Hello, Classicfilms, thank you for your attention to the article I initiated on Michael Burns. He was one of my favorite actors when I was a child, and I always wanted to know "whatever became of ... him", so I thought I would enter the information that I had. Thank you for refining and editing it to a good high standard. Cordially, David Boisclair drboisclair 19:14, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Placement of stub tags
In your recent edit of The Secret of Isis you placed the stub tag after the categories. My understanding of Wikistyle is that the stub tag goes before the categories, but after all other text. I've seen a few people doing this of late and I'm curious if the style has been changed. Cheers. 23skidoo 05:43, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out. I had noticed a number of pages where the stub followed which automatically allowed a space between the stub and the final sentence of the article (a few stubs I had placed as well had been moved) so I assumed there had been a change in the style. Feel free to move it back. - ClassicFilms
Midnight Special
I have added an article for deletion tag to Midnight Special. It seems to be nonnotable. If you have comments, feel free to represent the article as its creator on the articles for deletion page. Leppy 02:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Superman Returns
I had to remove the production information you added because it contained redundant information. The distributor, director, etc is already listed in the infobox and the introductory paragraph. All those secondary production companies are not significant enough to require noting. If you wish to add something, that deals with production, that you believe is significant then add it to the infobox to the right of the page; that is where it belongs. Thanks. Fair enough - thanks for letting me know. -- Classicfilms
AfD nomination of Girl Power in popular culture
I've nominated Girl Power in popular culture, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Girl Power in popular culture satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Girl Power in popular culture and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Girl Power in popular culture during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you.

Alumnae of women's colleges
Hi there! I noticed you've added a few MHC alumnae to the new "Alumnae of women's colleges" category, so before you put any more work in, would you mind reading my comment at Talk:List of Mount Holyoke College people? Thanks! Beginning 05:26, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi Beginning, Sure, I would be happy to. Thanks for writing. -- Classicfilms
---
Hi, I'm writing a paper on Wikipedia's entry of Mount Holyoke College and since you've done most of the editing of its entries, I would really appreciate it if you could please note here whether you're in any way affiliated with the college. Thank you in advance. 1:39, 5 May 2006
Yes, I graduated from Mount Holyoke. -- Classicfilms 5 May 2006
Great! Thank you for letting me know. 11:57, 5 May 2006
Good work on cleaning up some of the 5 college art museum sites -- it looks like the combined database for the art collections is at the Five College Museums/Historic Deerfield web site instead of Museums10, and I've updated the Mead Art Museum, Mt. Holyoke Art Museum, Historic Deerfield, Five College Museums/Historic Deerfield, Art Galleries, and Museums10 pages to reflect its location. I think that database has been getting shuffled around, but its one of the best around. Smawnmahlau
Hi Smawnmahlau- Great!! I really liked what you did with Five College Museums/Historic Deerfield. And thanks for the feedback - Classicfilms 12 May, 2006.
Bookstore articles
Howdy! Thanks for your attention to the bookstore articles. Please use {{retail-stub}} for the stub articles, though, because {{book-stub}} is used for books themselves, and sometimes book terminology. As long as the article has a "Bookstores" category of some sort it will get found. Thanks again - Her Pegship 15:13, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi Her Pegship,
Thanks for the feedback! What you are saying makes sense - independent bookstores are retail, but they provide a number of other services related to the community and to literature (sometimes in a way which is similar to Salon (gathering)s), which is why I was trying to be more specific.
I wonder if a stub could be created which is called independent bookstore stub - or something else which is a bit more specific to the nature of independent bookstores? I'm thinking in terms of stubs such as the publish-stub for articles about companies that work with books.
That way, there isn't the confusion that you raise with "book" and the stub is a little more specific than the wider category of "retail." -- Classicfilms 15 May 2006.
History of Mount Holyoke College
You reverted my edit, asking that I quote directly from the source. It is, unfortunately, poorly worded for quotation inclusion directly into the article. I'm going to reintroduce without the loaded word that you specifically referenced. It is used in the source however, "In fact, Mount Holyoke gained a reputation as a 'rib factory.'" I hope that this is an acceptable solution. GRBerry 03:19, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi GRBerry, I like the revision - I made a few minor tweaks as well. Interesting bit of information - thanks for the contribution. - Classicfilms 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- I like your expansion. This is still a stub, but the article look a lot less neglected. (I'm one of those who prefers to see prose over boxcruft.) GRBerry 17:46, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree - I hope more people contribute to it. Thanks for your feedback - Classicfilms 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank You
Hello Classicfilms. Thanks for creating a Miss Hall's article. I also noticed that you made several edits. I'm just curious about your affiliation with the school. Thanks!
Jennifer1989 16:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Jennifer1989,
You're welcome! Glad to help...I am not affiliated with Miss Hall's School. I created the article when I was working on the biography of Jean Erdman who graduated from Miss Hall's in 1934. I also work on articles related to women's colleges and schools so Miss Hall's falls into the category. I hope you will develop and add to the article ! -Classicfilms 16:09, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Classicfilms. Glad to see that a supporter of women's education. In looking at the history of edits for the Miss Hall's article, I notice that you edited a considerable amount of information out of the article citing NPOV. I believe the deleted text does give information about the school- what I believe to be the purpose of Wikipedia. For example, information about the leadership program, school affiliations, and the school motto were deleted. These are simply factual information about the organization. I would like to develop the article as you suggested so I plan to restore some edits. Just wanted to know how to do so, keeping NPOV in mind.
Jennifer1989 20:06, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, sounds like a great idea! I removed material from that page which had been copied directly from the Miss Hall's website. This violates Wikipedia's editing policy. If you want to give factual, objective information about the school, simply summarize the areas you want to talk about and give a URL which acts as a reference to your claim. NPOV edits usually involve removing material which presents the information in a subjective way - however, if you can support your claim with a reference , it should be fine. In that case, you should quote directly. Take a look at the Mount Holyoke College page which I've worked on and look at other school sites to get an idea of how they should be edited. I look forward to reading your work. -Classicfilms 20:24, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Podokesaurus
Hi Classicfilms, Thanks for your recent edit to Podokesaurus. However, I did revert your edit. You added the specific name to the top of the article. According to the decision on Wikipedia's WikiProject:Tree of Life, articles are only supposed to go down to the genus level. The article should mention species within the genus, but the article itself should be about the genus. Your recent change, moving the full name to the top of the article, made the article about the species, which is why it was reverted. If you have further questions, feel free to send me a message. Happy editing, --Firsfron of Ronchester 19:45, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Firsfron of Ronchester, Sure, that's fine - thanks for the explanation! It will help with my editing in the future. --Classicfilms 20:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your understanding. Take care, :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 08:38, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Wonder Woman
This Now Playing interview is what BBC refers to. Should we cite this instead? There's also some useful information about Wonder Woman that Whedon discussed in the interview. --Erik 22:50, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi Erik,
I see, that makes more sense. Yes, please change the citation to Now Playing as it's the better article. Thanks for all of your great work! -Classicfilms 22:56, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Does the list in Hidden Ivies really omit Rutgers?
In Public Ivies, you quoted a list from an appendix to Hidden Ivies. As quoted, the list does not included Rutgers, a surprising omission given that they had included it in their book on "public ivies." Would you mind double-checking and seeing whether they really left out Rutgers in their list in "Hidden Ivies?" Dpbsmith (talk) 12:40, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Dpbsmith (talk) - Sure, I'm happy to check. Appendix II, page 303, titled "Other Colleges and Universities of Excellence", is divided into three parts. The first is "Middle Size Private Universities" which does not (and would not) include Rutgers since Rutgers is a state school. The second part is titled "State Universities" and lists the schools I placed on the Public Ivies page - Rutgers is not included. The third part on page 304 is "Scientific and Technical Universities" which does not list Rutgers. There is another section on page 304, "Additional Colleges of Note", but this also does not list Rutgers. I checked in the index and Rutgers is not listed. -Classicfilms 14:15, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- Additional note. I restored the list on the Public Ivies page - which I had originally placed - and left your note that this list omits Rutgers. -Classicfilms 14:23, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Gusto conocerlo .... Alex Pascaweb 09:48, 02 Noviembre 2006

I think that you raise many good points - why don't you join the Uruguay WikiProject? Perhaps then you could create the article on Paez Vilaró? Also, don't forget to review these guidelines: Wikipedia:Image use policy - before uploading images to the pages. I look forward to reading your future contributions to the Casapueblo page ... - Here is the transcript.[2] Your first source is wrong. Your second source isn't primary either and may be from an editorial. Has Gore or his father ever referred to their farm that way? I think your second source is an example of sloppy reporting from Salon or paraphrasing by the author. Womens' College category
I noticed that you're removing people from Category:Alumnae of women's universities and colleges. I don't see any discussion related to the large scale removal of people from this category. May I inquire as to why you're removing so many people from that category? --ElKevbo 16:06, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi ElKevbo - Good question, thanks for the post. I was following this guideline Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories, which states that an "article should not be in both a category and its subcategory." I removed the main category Category:Alumnae of women's universities and colleges from articles which also included subcategories also listed on that page (such as Radcliffe College alumni, Smith College alumni etc.). I also did not remove the main category Category:Alumnae of women's universities and colleges from articles which did not have a related subcategory. -Classicfilms 16:15, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Mount Holyoke pages
Thank you for your contributions to the Mount Holyoke College pages. Sources will be needed for the commencement speaker information and it would be great if you could create biographies for the athletes. +++Hey Classicfilms - Here's some information for you to verify your critiques of my updates to Mt. Holyoke people's page regarding athletes.
http://www.mtholyoke.edu/offices/comm/csj/960802/gold.html
I am an alum by the way and I graduated in 1976 so I do in fact know who my commencement speaker was. So my update to that page is first hand knowledge. It wasn't exactly the digital age back then though. Mhclucifer 02:29, 4 May 2007 (UTC)mhclucifer
- Hi Mhclucifer,Welcome to the Wikipedia! Glad to see your contributions and I hope you continue to add more information on MHC athletics. Please take a few moments to review Wikipedia guidelines. Unfortunately, first-hand knowledge must be backed up on these pages by some kind of reference. I did find one here which I will add re: Hellman -- http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/research/fa/hellman.folderlist.html. As for the Olympics, that information is usually taken from official Olympics databases, which is what I used here. Thanks again and hope that you will develop biography pages for these athletes. Let me know if you have other Wikipedia related questions. -Classicfilms 02:34, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, I do have a question. Since it is fairly common knowledge that wikipedia is a human based knowledge system that tends to be full of inaccuracies, I was wondering how you got appointed to police wikipedia postings or are you just freelancing? You seem to have some interest in these pages but there are lots of other pages with far more glaring inaccuracies so I am just trying to understand if you are self appointed or what. I am not trying to be rude but the way you have chosen to communicate with me is not making me feel warm and fuzy. Mhclucifer 02:45, 4 May 2007 (UTC)mhclucifer

- Hi Mhclucifer, I appreciate the feedback. Actually, the Wikipedia is monitored by thousands of editors from all over the world, who are all obligated to adhere to the guidelines outlined above. Initially, the rules are a bit overwhelming at first, but easier once you get the hang of it. Some of the guidelines I am referring to regarding references can be found here - Wikipedia:Attribution and Wikipedia:No original research to begin with. I am also an alumna and am very happy to see you here and hope you will continue to add information to the MHC pages. Thanks, -Classicfilms 02:53, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

MoHo
I'm pretty new at editing Wikipedia. I think I'm going about this the right way, but please let me know if I should be posting this kind of question somewhere else.
In the Overview: General facts section of Mount Holyoke College, you replaced the word "Students" with "MoHo's" followed by a parenthetical explanation of the term. To me as a reader, "students" seems like a clearer term for this part of the article, making it easier to absorb the basic facts like the number of students. The slang term, though interesting, isn't a central fact so it's a bit distracting; it might fit better in the section on student life. Also, have you come across a published source for "MoHo" or its relation to "PoMo"? This would be worth citing.
Thanks! Bdenneen 17:41, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Bdenneen - Welcome to the Wikipedia! Thanks so much for your post about the Mount Holyoke College page - I really appreciated it. I agree with you and changed the term back to students. Good point as well about PoMo - I removed it pending upon a source. The MHC pages could use copyediting, fact-checking, and expansion and it would be great (depending upon the time you have) if you would make whatever changes you feel are needed. I've put basic rules above but please do feel free to ask questions if you have them - Wikipedia:Five pillars is a good place to begin. I look forward to reading your edits. -Classicfilms 18:57, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Data and Integrity
I've been away for a bit. But I still am frustrated by your ideas about data and integrity. So I am going to continue to talk to you about this.
First, the so called "Olympic databases" that you refer to probably are very lacking in data integrity. By that I mean they have never been officially audited or validated. And I believe your sources only include winners for the older Olympics and not the full participants from each country's teams. And data integrity is something I have a long professional experience with.
Second, I don't know why you don't think first hand accounts are invalid. I assume you have heard of oral histories. And even newspapers (onlinen or otherwise) have to get their information from somewhere. And the news media is less than stellar in its handling of facts. I mean reporters make stuff up (lots of high profile recent cases). And having been in a demonstration in the 70s that Time magazine printed a report about, I can assure that either the editors or the reporters botched their facts royally. Because the printed report bore no semblance to the reality of that day. So which is right? And the other problematic thing with data sources can be shown by attendance numbers at rallies/demonstations. The cops, press, and organizers invariably have 3 different numbers for these events.
And if I find an online reference to something and can provide it to you even if it doesn't agree with your online sources of data, then which is right? Mhclucifer 19:19, 6 May 2007 (UTC)mhclucifer
- Ok, these are fair questions. Generally, when making a contribution to the Wikipedia, all editors must comply with community rules which are outlined here - Wikipedia:Five pillars. All edits must conform with this policy in particular, Wikipedia:Verifiability which is why an edit which is not backed up by a source can be challenged by any editor to the Wikipedia. That being said, you make valid points above and perhaps the solution would be to track down official records from the Olympics as the goal isn't pushing one source over another but rather to provide information which is backed up by substantial sources to comply with Wikipedia:Attribution - my suggestion (since other Wikipedians may raise the same issue) would be to revert my edit back to your original one and, using your reference to back it up - and then if you could find a secondary, reliable source to back it up, it would strengthen the edit. This doesn't have to be an online source by the way and in fact I prefer hard copy footnotes. Thanks for writing -Classicfilms 19:33, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Some of the things that you've editted from my entries are simple Google searches to verify. For someone with such a penchant for material removal, you might try Google first.
I am going to question you on why you do what you do. And especially on the the removal of this entry I had on this

I will label that removal as blatant homomphobic behavior, because I cannot think of any other reason for your removal of that material. Mhclucifer 01:36, 8 May 2007 (UTC)mhclucifer

Audrey A. McNiff
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Audrey A. McNiff, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. - No problem, it's always a bit confusing when you first start out. Actually I meant your discussion page here. -Classicfilms 22:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Dear Classicfilms, thx for pointing me to this page. I'll spend some time on the guidelines. Finding my initial forays into this new terrain to be very interesting! appreciate your help and will likely be firing questions your way 138.110.7.136 14:18, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

- I am assuming that the above message is from Kevin A. McCaffrey? If so, each time you login, and there is a post for you on your talk page, a small "message" box will appear so you should automatically be guided to it. And certainly, after you've gone over the guidelines, I would be happy to answer questions. -Classicfilms 14:22, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Classicfilms, you are right, it was me, still a bit of a bull in the china shop! best, Kevin A. McCaffrey 16:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Preview Editing before Saving?
Hello Classicfilms,
Wow! It appears you've done hundreds of edits on articles, many in a single article (e.g. Mount Holyoke College) that are just minutes apart. I am wondering if it wouldn't be more conducive to Preview the article after making each change, then Save only after you are finished making the several edits, as so the History is not cluttered with so many entries...
...but, then again, I'm a newbie to this myself, (and you've been doing it since 2005), so what do I know :-)
Regardless, your contributions are appreciated.

- Hi Gillwill - thanks for the reminder. -Classicfilms 14:47, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. - I should have mentioned that I actually do use the preview button quite often, but later find changes or mistakes that need to be made - your point is valid, however, and I will make it a point to slow down and use the preview button even more. I also noticed that you added some edits to the MHC page - perhaps you would be interested in making further contributions to it? The page certainly needs work from more than one editor. Thanks again for the feedback. -Classicfilms 15:09, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Shelley Jackson
Hey! I am editing the article on Shelley Jackson and noticed in the edit history that (a while ago) you added a "see also" list to the article. I tried to integrate some of the people on the list into the main article, but could actually only find a clear connection to Jackson in two cases (Coover and Landow taught her at Brown.) Do you know how the other people (who seem to be electronic literature authors or critics) connect to Jackson? If so, is there any way you'd be able to write a bit of text that incorporates them into the main article? Thanks, Hobbesy3 16:43, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Hobbesy3 - thanks for the note. You are right, it was a pretty old edit. Since it looks like you are currently editing the page, perhaps you would be interested in integrating this information? Here are some suggestions:
- Go ahead and delete the "See also" that I created - it was a pretty old edit, made awhile ago and as you point out it really makes more sense to integrate the information. Replace it with just one wikilink to the Electronic Literature Organization (which Jackson is affiliated with). These critics have all at one point or another written or commented on Jackson's work (particularly "Patchwork Girl") - a good place to begin is with N. Katherine Hayles and her book, My Mother Was a Computer. You can see portions of this book and other works by critics on scholar.google here. If this proves daunting let me know and I'll lend you a hand - and do let me know if you have further questions. -Classicfilms 17:04, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
