[edit] Current events

CLAES, thank you for your efforts on supporting some Wikipedia articles.

Many articles, which correspond to current events, are being updated by users, making information in the articles valid almost all the time. And most users, visiting the articles, expect to see the information valid at this moment. I don't mean any speculative information, of course.

Could you please provide valid reasons for why articles must not be updated until the event of interest is complete? Svmich (talk) 16:15, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

According to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey player statistics should not be updated until the season has ended. I think it should be the same with cups. Wikipedia is en encyclopaedia, not an up to date stats central, there are other better web sites for that. But I won't take this further as I don't have the energy to argue on Wikipedia, so do what you think is best. Btw, here's a tip, don't save everytime you have made a change to a an article, use the "show preview" button instead, and when you are happy with all edits hit the save button. Otherwise you'll be creating a lot of versions of the same article with small edits. --claes (talk) 18:14, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The GMT GAMES item

Why the alteration to the GMT Games entry to remove the data about its owner, Gene Billingsley? It is completely accurate data, as can be determined by accessing the appropriate court records in California, as well as media reports there. He is, in fact, a convicted child molester who was jailed for his crime and is now back working full time at the firm. Truth is truth. So, why the removal? smn —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephen newberg (talkcontribs)

No sources were cited. --claes 19:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
By that criteria, most of Wiki would be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephen newberg (talkcontribs)
Yes, most of Wikipedia is fairly unsourced. Many articles are scrutinized and if no sources are backing up statements they're removed, especially controversial and sensitive statements. Take a look at the article 300 (film), for example. --claes 14:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
OK, here is your cite: On September 13, 2002 the Hanford (California) Sentinel reported: "Eldon Gene Billingsley, 42, of Hanford, was sentenced to three years in state prison Monday after being charged with touching a young girl inappropriately in January at his home. This is the maximum term, District Attorney's officials said, for molestation of a child of 14 to 15 years old." (Sentencing 09-09-02; Department 2; Case #02-4216)" For further, you will have to check into the actual releasable case documents in California. smn —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephen newberg (talkcontribs)

[edit] Sources for Fredrik Olausson

Hello. Good work on Fredrik Olausson, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you list in the article any websites, books, or other sources that will allow people to verify the content in Fredrik Olausson? You can simply add links, preferably as inline citations, or see citation templates for different citation methods. Thanks! Shawnc 13:06, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SE vs. SWE

I know that but isn't CS for czechoslovakia and CZE for Czech Rep? Look at all the canadian players infoboxes, they all have CAN. And I would guess that the SWE abbreviation is more recognizable then SE, outside of the scandinavian countries. --Krm500 21:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nicklas Lidström

I apologize. While adding a source for Lidstrom being named captain, I must have started editing before your edit went through, and then hit "save page" after your edit, which reverted it. I did not even see your edit until you told me about it on my talk page, and I definitely did not intentionally revert it. I don't know now whether it's better to revert back to your version, and then add my citation, or add your citations to my version, but either way, I encourage you to re-add what looks to be excellent citations. Thanks for not freaking out after I reverted your good edit. --Muéro 17:27, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] player stats

I was unaware we aren't supposed to add stats mid-season. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. --207.69.139.8 13:37, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nya infoboxen i Linköpings HC-artikeln

:S - x-Flare-x 02:21, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Tanken är att där kan namnbyten listas. Se Frölunda HC. --claes 09:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Age in Infobox

Age is NOT to be included in infoboxes. Please revert your changes The strokes 01:17, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I disagree. Take a look at where the template Birth date and age is used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Birth_date_and_age, only in infoboxes. So there are a lot more people than me that believe age should be included in infoboxes. --claes 06:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear CLAES! You are receiving this newsletter because you have signed up as a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. The purpose of this newsletter is to update on the goings on of the project, as there have been major changes, and a lot of new recognized content in the past few weeks. If you are an inactive user, you probably won't recognize the new and improved state of the WikiProject!

From the project, Maxim.

Article Improvement

By Maxim

Upon some discussion on the WikiProject talk page, the Article Improvement Drive page was revamped by Krm500 and Maxim. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status.

edit

Diacritics

By Maxim

In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt.

Task forces

By Maxim
There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics.

Sweden Ice Hockey task force

This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES.

New Jersey Devils task force

This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock.

Requested Images

By Maxim
After discussion on the WikiProject talk page, Serte created a page for Requested Images. The page encourages users to license images for use on articles. The page also has section to request images for players, arenas, game situations, miscellaneous, and team and league logos. The page has been quite popular; since it was created on July 21, there have been six completed requests. There are four currently outstanding requests:

Article assessement completed

By Maxim
On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a {{ice hockey}} tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. This effort took around 5 months. A big thanks goes to Kaiser matias from me and all the project.

Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has just been promoted to featured list status, while the bot was delivering the newsletter. Maxim(talk) 02:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

New recognized content

By Maxim

Especially due to the featured topic drive, there have been many new featured lists promoted concerning NHL awards. Here's the full list of all the 13 FL's promoted since the last newsletter.[1][2]

  1. Featured article Hart Memorial Trophy
  2. Featured article James Norris Memorial Trophy
  3. Featured article Vezina Trophy
  4. Featured article Conn Smythe Trophy
  5. Featured article Frank J. Selke Trophy
  6. Featured article Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
  7. Featured article Lester B. Pearson Award
  8. Featured article Calder Memorial Trophy
  9. Featured article Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy
  10. Featured article King Clancy Memorial Trophy
  11. Featured article Jack Adams Award
  12. Featured article Presidents' Trophy
  13. Featured article List of Calgary Flames players

There have been no new good articles or featured articles. Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy has been given A-Class status due to multiple issues raised at FLC.

  1. ^ The last one, List of Calgary Flames players, is the only one not associated with the featured topic drive.
  2. ^ At the time of publishing, there were 5 lists at WP:FLC and 2 lists in the "Holding cell", as there's been an accepted guideline to not put more that 5 trophy lists at the same time to, "compensate for the sanity of the reviewers".

Did You Know?

By Maxim
There have been 4 new articles featured in the Did You Know section? on the Main Page since August.

...that Wally Tatomir, head equipment manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, holds four patents on ice hockey-related equipment?

...that ice hockey player Mark Major attained 355 penalty minutes during the 1997-98 AHL season for the Portland Pirates, where he averaged 4.5 penalty minutes a game and still holds the club record?

...that Garth Butcher was a member of Canada's first-ever gold medal team at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships before becoming a pest and setting team records for penalty minutes in the National Hockey League?

..that the AMP NHL Winter Classic is scheduled to be the first regular-season outdoor National Hockey League game in the United States?

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

Started by User:Scorpion0422, the aim of this drive is to make NHL awards a featured topic. A featured topic is basically a set of very high quality articles (good articles and featured articles/lists). In this case, the topic is NHL awards. Many users have helped, including Scorpion0422, Resolute, Serte, Hasek is the best, Maxim, Croat Canuck, Spike Wilbury, FutureNJGov, and T Rex/Dinosaur puppy. The progress has been very good; there are 12 featured lists promoted, and 2 good articles:

  1. Featured article Hart Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  2. Featured article James Norris Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  3. Featured article Vezina Trophy (Scorpion)
  4. Featured article Conn Smythe Trophy (Serte)
  5. Featured article Frank J. Selke Trophy (FutureNJGov)
  6. Featured article Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Scorpion)
  7. Featured article Lester B. Pearson Award (Scorpion)
  8. Featured article Calder Memorial Trophy (Croat Canuck)
  9. Featured article Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  10. Featured article King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Maxim)
  11. Featured article Jack Adams Award (Maxim)
  12. Featured article Presidents' Trophy (Scorpion)
  13. Good article Stanley Cup (Earlier collaboration, very many involved)
  14. Good article Traditions and anecdotes associated with the Stanley Cup (Maxim)

Check the project page if you are interested in helping out. Although it's closer to being done than not, there's still work to be done. The next topic that might be tackled is Stanley Cup, but this remains purely speculative and in discussion.

[edit] Card Football

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Card Football, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 15:59, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Card Football

A tag has been placed on Card Football requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. TheProf07 (talk) 16:08, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Card Football

An editor has nominated Card Football, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Card Football and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 17:14, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear CLAES! You are receiving as you are a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey There's been many more new things going on at WP:HOCKEY, and I think this will help you to stay informed. Since the last newsletter sent out in October, there have been many new changes. Task forces

By Maxim

There was a new taskforce created within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Boston Bruins. It was originally founded as a separate WikiProject, but was quickly turned into a taskforce within WikiProject Ice Hockey. The list of participants is located here. Located at WP:BRUINS, the taskforce's goals are to make Boston Bruins and Bobby Orr featured articles. Good luck!

New Administrators

By Maxim
Since October, there have been three new admins promoted within the project:

A previously admin-only feature has been made available for all users. The rollback feature allows a user to quickly revert vandalism with one click. If you wish to have rollback, contact an active admin or post a request to WP:RFR.

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes

  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. Maxim doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status. Feel free to nominate features at Portal:Ice hockey/Suggestions.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!

[edit] Copyright violation in Leigh Ronald Grossman

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Leigh Ronald Grossman, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Leigh Ronald Grossman is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Leigh Ronald Grossman, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 16:30, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Aces & Eights: Shattered Frontier

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Aces & Eights: Shattered Frontier, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Oo7565 (talk) 00:11, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
