Historians such as Polybius and Livy attributed the Romans' defeat to these machines, together with catapults also devised by Archimedes. Seems unlikely, seeing as the Romans were not defeated; they won. They were delayed by these machines for some time, however. -- 68.146.220.249 (talk) 19:00, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
