Claverton is a small village situated approximately 2 miles (3 km) to the east of Bath at the southern end of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in Somerset, England.
The church of St Mary the Virgin has a Norman tower and contains a peel of 6 bells including 3 dated 1637. Other parts of the church date from the 13th century, but underwent extensive renovation in 1858.[1][2] Ralph Allen is buried in a pyramid-topped tomb in Claverton churchyard.[3]
Claverton Pumping Station is a pumping station, which pumps water from the River Avon to the Kennet and Avon Canal using power from the flow of the River Avon.[4] It has been designated by English Heritage as a grade II listed building.[5]
The American Museum in Britain is based at Claverton Manor, in a house, designed by Jeffry Wyatville and built in the 1820s[6] (Grid reference ST 785640). It is now a grade I listed building.[7]
Claverton was recognised as being of special architectural and historic interest and was designated a Conservation Area in November 1981.[8]
