Cláudio Ribeiro – Conductor. Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil (1958).
He first received a BM in Music (1982) from the Federal University of Brazil. Following this degree he pursued further development of his conducting and musicianship in Europe, first in studying at the Hilversum International Courses for Conductor (Holland) and then with Guennadi Rozhdestvensky (Italy). He also has a Diploma in Opera by the Accademia di Osimo (Italy). In 1983 he was a winner in the second National Competition for Young Conductors (Porto Alegre Symphony - Brazil). He started his international conducting career in 1984 covering both symphonic and opera repertoire. In 1993 he became Music Director of the Blumenau Chamber Orchestra which would last until 2000, including a tour to Germany. During this time he also held the position of Music Director for the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (1995-1998). In 2006 he embarked on a masters degree from the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music which was finished in 2008. Cláudio was Special Guest Conductor of the Denver Philharmonic during the 2006/2007 season. Among other distinguished orchestras he conducted are the Parana Gerais and Minas Gerais Symphonie (Brazil) (1997, 2000, 2002), Bulgarian Philarmonic of Russe (1988), Deutschekammerakademie (Germany) (2007), Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra (1997), National Orchestra of Uruguay (2003, 2004, 2006), State of Mexico Symphony (1998), Turin Philharmonic (1997). In the United States of America he also collaborated and did guest conducting with Lamont Symphony Orchestra, Elkart Symphony Orchestra, Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra, the Denver Young Artists Orchestra and the Eastern Illinois Symphony.
Current
Since 1984 Cláudio has worked as a lecturer at the Rio Grande do Sul Federal University (Brazil). In 1999 he pioneered a project named International Music Assemblage, with a goal to achieve worldwide peace through music. He is currently guest conducting, and president of Instituto Musica, a non-governmental Brazilian institution dedicated to promote music and culture.
Claudio Ribeiro is also composer, and his works have been published by Goldberg Editions. He also participates in juries of international competitions such as the Guitar Competition of Alessandria (Italy -1998).
