Claude Gnakpa Johouri (born June 9, 1983 in Marseille, France) is a French footballer of Ivorian descent who plays for Peterborough United. His most usual demarcations are central defender and Full back. Gnakpa has played for Montpellier HSC, Racing de Santander, Deportivo Alavés and FC Vaduz.
In March 2007, Gnakpa was signed on transfer deadline day by Swindon Town boss Paul Sturrock on a short-term contract. Gnapka was an unused sub in the 3-2 away win at Lincoln City. On March 28, Gnapka started for the reserves in the 4-0 win against Weymouth F.C. Reserves. Gnakpa failed to break into the Swindon Town first-team before he was released.
In July 2007, Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson took Gnakpa on trial. .[1] He was eventually signed by the club. The "Flying Frenchman" was quickly made a regular at London Road and with his notoriously strong tackle and terrifying pace he cemented his place in the team.[2]
In May 2008, with his contract due at the end of the season, it was reported that Gnapka had rejected Peterborough's offer of an improved contract for 2008/09, following the Cambridgeshire sides promotion to Englands League 1, and would instead search for another league club. Reportedly, Gnapka has harboroured interested from Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, League 1 outfit Luton, and Scottish Premier side Aberdeen.[3]
