Classical philology is the study of the language systems of Latin, specifically ancient Latin, and of Ancient Greek. It is called classical philology due to the use of the term Classics to refer to the general studies of ancient Greece and Rome. Classical philology is also highly intertwined with the study of the literature of Greek and Roman antiquity.
