Clarkstown High School South is a public high school located in West Nyack, New York. The school educates students in grades 9 through 12, and one of two high schools in the Clarkstown Central School District (CCSD). It is commonly nicknamed Clarkstown South, or simply "South."

[edit] Buildings and facilities
Clarkstown South building consists of a main lobby, large auditorium, a music wing, gym, and three floors of classrooms. In the fall of 2005, a planetarium was built in the rear of the building. A greenhouse was also constructed in 2006. South's music department is led by James Fogarty, Matthew Hommez and Lydia Leizman. South offers many music ensembles; chorus, orchestra, jazz band, Marching Band, concert band, Troubadors, Ars Musica, and Tri-M.
[edit] Mascots and sports
Clarkstown South's mascot is the Viking and the school colors are brown and gold. Although Clarkstown South does not have an official "rival" school, it is widely accepted that Clarkstown High School North is its main rival in sports. The varsity football teams play each other annually, and the South vs. North game is usually South's homecoming game. South is also big rivals with North Rockland Red Raiders.
[edit] 1985 fire
On December 26, 1985, a fire occurred in the gymnasium, causing extensive damage and rendering the gym unusable for the second semester. Luckily, the fire occurred in the early morning after Christmas and no one was hurt. However, extensive and costly renovations were necessary to put the gym in order for the 1986-87 school year.

Tour De South was an event that took place at Clarkstown South on Friday May 16th, 2008. Mike McQuillan,the creator of the Tour De South, made this protest because of how gas prices were becoming to ridiculous for teens. This event was a school wide protest against rising gas prices. Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and even staff took part in this event. Overall, over 250 people rode their bikes, scooters, roller blades and wagons to school. This event was covered by News Channel 12 and was an overall success.

- Ryan Grant, Green Bay Packers running back, attended South for his sophomore year before transferring to Don Bosco Prep.[3]
- Another alumnus of note is writer and journalist David Van Deusen (class of 92). David co-wrote the controversial book "The Black Bloc Papers" (Insubordinate Editions, Baltimore, MD, 2002) as well "Neither Washington Nor Stowe" (Black Clover Press, Montpelier, VT, 2004).
- Thomas Foley, firefighter for the Fire Department of New York. Tragically killed while responding to the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001.
