Clark Gruening is an American politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party from Alaska.
Gruening, a lawyer outside of politics, was a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 1974 to 1978. Two years later, in the 1980 U.S. Senate election in Alaska, he ran in the Democratic Senate primary, unexpectedly defeating incumbent Senator Mike Gravel. Gravel had himself defeated Gruening's grandfather, prominent early Alaskan politician Ernest Gruening, in the Democratic primary twelve years earlier. Gruening went on to lose the 1980 election to Republican candidate Frank Murkowski.
