Clare is a constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. The constituency has an electorate of 80,412 and at present is served by 4 Teachtaí Dála (TDs). The method of election is the Single Transferable Vote.
The Clare parliamentary constituency spans the entire area of the county, taking in Ennis, Shannon, Kilrush, Newmarket-on-Fergus and Ennistymon. The constituency is historically a Fianna Fáil stronghold. The party founder, former Taoiseach and former President Eamon de Valera served the constituency for many decades. His granddaughter recently retired as TD for the area. Other notable former deputies include the former President of Ireland, Patrick Hillery, and the former Cabinet Minister, Brendan Daly.
