Clanculus peccatus is a species of medium-sized sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Trochidae, the top snails.

This species is endemic to New Zealand, at Cape Maria van Diemen in the North Island, and at Great Barrier Island.

This top snail is found under stones at and below low tide.

[edit] Shell description

The shell is moderately large, with a tall narrow spire, a massive broadly rounded peripheral flange, and a flat base. Sculpture is of four spiral cords, plus a stronger pair forming the peripheral flange, followed by six narrow cords on the base. All cords are strongly and closely beaded. The umbilical area is narrow and filled with callus. The pillar has two moderate denticles above, a large bifid one below, followed by three denticles on the basal lip, and a series of deep grooves within the outer lip.

The external shell coloration is yellowish-brown, radially streaked and spotted with reddish-brown. The labial area is white, and silvery iridescent within the aperture.

The shell height is up to 11.5 mm, and the width is up to 11.5 mm.
