Clagg are a sludge/stoner/doom group based in Melbourne, Australia. Formed in October 2002, they draw inspiration from bands such as Iron Monkey, Eyehategod, Earth, Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath and numerous others. A self-titled EP recorded by the original line-up of Ben (vocals), Tom (guitar), Vman (guitar), Ash (bass) and Ozz (drums) was released in April 2003, featuring a range of bizarre lyrical themes including, most notably, an inexplicable yet intense dislike of actor David Arquette.
In early 2004, vocalist Ben and bassist Ash were replaced by Scotty and Adam B. Doom respectively, and a full-length album entitled Let The Galaxy Burn was recorded in October. The album was finally released in June 2005 after drummer Ozz recovered from a serious injury. The year culminated in Clagg supporting English doom heroes Electric Wizard in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, along with Swedish death metal legends Dismember, and Canberra's Pod People.
In March 2006, drummer Ozz left the band and was replaced by Al, formerly of Panty Raid. Clagg continued gigging and also played the final Metal For The Brain festival in Canberra on November 4, 2006.
Clagg recorded their latest album Where Dead Gods Sleep in May 2007. Released in November, the album showcases all the hallmarks of the Clagg sound: huge riffs, plenty of low end and hate-encrusted vocals. Drummer Al left the band after the recording, to be replaced by Tim. Following the launch of the album and subsequent touring across multiple states, Clagg parted ways with bassist Adam B. Doom and drafted Sam to be his replacement.
Clagg have played live with international bands such as Electric Wizard (England), Dismember (Sweden), Skinless (USA) and Nervecell (Dubai). They have also played live with Australian bands such as Blood Duster, Alchemist, Dreadnaught, Pod People, LOG, Jed Whitey, Gospel of the Horns, Frankenbok, Nunchukka Superfly, Captain Cleanoff and Youngbreeder.
