The station originally began broadcasting in 2002. CJVR is currently a sister station of CKJH, which first went on the air in 1966 as the original CJVR at 1420 AM. In 1995, CJVR moved to 750 AM, where it has remained to the present. The station changed to its present call letters in 2002 when CJVR-FM signed on and adopted the AM station's previous country format, while CKJH switched to an oldies music format.

On May 30, 2008, CJVR-FM parent company Radio CJVR was granted its application by the CRTC to operate a radio station in Chilliwack, British Columbia at 89.5 FM. The Radio CJVR application beat out competing applications by Golden West Broadcasting, Vista Media Group, Newcap Broadcasting and Frank Torres (who applied on behalf of an as-yet unincorporated company).
