CJKX is a Canadian radio station. Although its official city of license is Ajax, Ontario, the station operates out of studios in Oshawa, Ontario with co-owned stations CKDO and CKGE. Airing at 95.9 FM, the station broadcasts a country music format branded as KX96.
The station was launched in 1967 as AM 1390 CHOO. The station was acquired in 1973 by Community Communications, and in 1977 by Golden West Broadcasting. In 1994, the station was acquired by its current owner, Durham Radio, and moved to its current FM frequency. [1]
In 1999, the station added a rebroadcaster in Sunderland, operating on 89.9 FM.[2]
In 2006, CJKX was approved by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to add a rebroadcaster in downtown Toronto, to operate on 95.9 FM, the same frequency as the main station.[3]
