[edit] History

CJIL-TV was founded by Dick and Joan Dewert. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) granted the Dewerts a licence on April 4, 1995. It debuted on January 14, 1996 broadcasting in southern Alberta and expanded nationally on September 11, 2000. CJIL-TV was the Canadian affiliate for the Trinity Broadcasting Network. The station is available globally via satellite and on the web.

On May 20, 2007, Dick and Joan Dewert resigned from the station due to an extra-marital relationship. Ray Block is the interim CEO.

[edit] Over-the-air expansion in Alberta

In 2007, CJIL filed an application with the CRTC for a licence to operate English-language transitional digital television programming undertakings in Calgary (Channel 15) and Edmonton (Channel 21). If approved, these transmitters would have simply rebroadcast the original CJIL-TV schedule in its entirety. The applications were denied, however, in favour of a competing application from the Crossroads Television System.

[edit] Criticism

An independent group not associated with the station, The Miracle Channel Review, is an organization that was created for the purpose of objectively examining the teachings and teachers of shows that are aired by The Miracle Channel. The group claims to review strictly from a Christian biblical perspective, using hermeneutics whenever possible, as well as assisting in educating anyone who is conducting research in religious studies or generally interested in current trends and movements in Christianity.
