CJ Corporation (Hangul: 씨제이주식회사, CJ주식회사; KRXS: 001041) is a South Korean corporation. It changed its name from Cheil Jedang to CJ in 2002.
It was originally part of Samsung group, but separated in the 1990s. Its main products have been processed foods and retail & distribution, most famous for sugar. However, it has recently moved into the entertainment industry, with creation of "CJ Entertainment". Notably, it has built the largest multiplex movie theater franchise in Korea, called CJ CGV.
CJ Corporation legally spun off from Samsung group in 1995, but the two keep very close ties to this day.
Its main business areas include foodstuffs, (comprising sugar, wheat, and oil), bio, (comprising MSG, lysine, etc.), processed food, animal feed, and pharmaceuticals.
The entertainment sector has been spun off from the company in the early 2000s and is now a subsidiary of CJ Corporation.
